The mother of Sgt. Rafael Peralta asked God to bless the ship named for her son and keep the crew safe before smashing a bottle of Champagne on the ship's bow Saturday.
Peralta, who pulled a grenade against his body to protect his fellow Marines during close combat with insurgents in Fallujah, Iraq, on Nov. 15, 2004, is believed to be the first serviceman born in Mexico to have a naval warship named in his honor.

"But in a larger sense, we can not dedicate â we can not consecrate â we can not hallow â this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. I believe I recall reading about this man in the excellent book “No Greater Glory” about the battle for Fallujah.
RIP.

Denied MOH because there was some doubt he was conscious...
Because the unconscious often scoop up live grenades and shield their buddies from the blast as a gallant dieing act...
SecDef should correct and award Sgt Peralta the MOH...Perhaps a Pres Cruz or Trump could correct this injustice...

I remember when the MOH was declined. I’m glad he is being honored this way.

The incident took place during the first term of President George W Bush, that administration had a full four years to honor the marine.
Not sure you can blame Obama for this.
