With his beleaguered campaign burning through cash and his family fast running out of patience, Jeb Bush now sees a loan from Donald Trump as his best path to the Republican presidential nomination.
Even as he was still “putting the finishing touches†on his loan application, Mr. Bush sought to cast his decision as “foresighted,†arguing that of all the candidates in the GOP field he is the best positioned to borrow from Mr. Trump.
Striding briskly across the stage during a town hall meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire, the sole of his worn right shoe partially separated from the leather upper, Mr. Bush highlighted the similarities in his and Mr. Trump’s humble backgrounds. They are both progeny of wealthy and successful fathers, he said, who, as young adults, struck out on their own with nothing more than millions in family money in their pockets and an elite education to their name.
