The mayor of the southern French town of Alès has shut down operations at a local slaughterhouse following the release of a video showing the mistreatment of animals inside the facility.
The secretly shot footage, which was released Wednesday by animal rights group L214, shows animals regaining consciousness while they are being slaughtered. The graphic video shows animals having their throats slit, being bled while hanging by one leg or being left to bleed to death on the slaughterhouse floor.
"A person who had access to the slaughterhouse contacted us, knowing that we had already looked into this matter," explained Sébastien Arsac, one of the group's co-founders. "Some fifty hours of footage were shot over the course of ten days."

My take on it is the whole operation is amateurish. There are no safe alleys to lead animals to the kill. There seem to be no standard methods of leading, restraining, killing, or bleeding. The methods are dangerous to the workers. The abusive methods probably lead to an inferior product. There are several unclean kills.
I did not find it overly abusive, except for a couple of the unclean horse kills and how forceful they had to be because of an inefficient system. Bottom line, there are better ways.
Your thoughts?
I am not a big fan of factory type slaughter houses. Obviously a slower “more humane” system would cost more and drive up meat cost but one would hope the industry would clean up it’s own act rather than the Government stepping in to do it for them.
Halal?
I have no intention of watching this-—it would ruin my day but the same type of thing went on at a Kosher slaughterhouse a few years back.

Was thinking the same thing. Halal slaughter is barbaric.
I knew someone who had some land and raised a few pigs. He slaughtered them himself for pig roasts but always used a high powered firearm. One shot to the head with a 12gauge deer slug at close range did the job quick and mercifully.
My grandfather raised a pig every year.
It would follow him around like a puppy all the time until it was it was time to go into the smoke house.
I prefer the Walmart meat aisle.

Well at least when you raised it, you how it was raised and what it was fed. With all the attempts to import food from China and hide it`s source, I`d take those self raised and slaughtered pork roasts over the Melamine laced.
Halal? Kosher?
Figures...slaughtering animals make libs angrier than slaughtering babies.
