From the phenomenal group that gave us artists like Clapton, Page, Jeff Beck and more.

And bands like Cream, Zeppelin, The Jeff Beck Group and more.

original blue eyed British blues

I nominate that album for the worst cover art ever.

That album was the one with Page and Beck on dual lead guitars.

That was beyond horrible!!!!!

If you think that cover is better than the Yardbirds original with Jeff Beck, you need professional help.

:-)

“you need professional help.”

No need in being an ass about it. I just think the song
was done better when better musicians are playing it.
Beck and page were OK, Beck being a slightly better and
talented musician but the Moore version is a hell of a lot
more fun to play than the bubblegum version of the
Yardbirds. Just my opinion as a professional musician.

Although I grew up a Beatles fan, I always felt the Yardbirds was far superior technically &, in some sense, even musically.

“Over, Under Sideways Down” was, and still is, a great song that showcased Jeff Beck - arguably the Yardbirds best guitarist.

Interesting sidenote, “Over” was used in a 2015 commercial promo for Duck Dynasty according to Wiki.

Wow, Gary Moore is better than Beck and Page huh?

Well I guess you’re entitled to your opinion.

Correcting the label, the record was UK Columbia SCX6063.

“Yardbirds was far superior technically &, in some sense, even musically.”

But their albums were always hit and miss : a few strong tunes with so-so filler songs usually not written by them .

“Yardbirds- Shapes of Things(1966)”

That’s how I first learned to play it. My sister was one of
those 60’s hippies and had that album. I thought I was being
cool all bebopin around strumming that tune then I moved on
to Deep Purple - Machine Head. The first time I covered Shapes in a band was the way Gary Moore played it.

I don’t think Moore is any better than Beck, Becks was pretty good
on Wired. Jimmy Page was right there with Tommy Bolin,
both being way over rated but they had some good tunes.

Don’t get me wrong... I think Gary Moore is good, I just don’t place him in the same space as Page and Beck. I’d say Moore fits better in the company of players like Robert Cray, though not quite as good as Cray, or maybe someone like Jimmy Vaughan. I’d put Albert Collins above Moore as well, but in the end it’s all a matter of taste. Like I said; I think Moore is good, but Beck he ain’t.

One of the most underrated/unknown guitarists of all time was Danny Gatton. I just can’t personally place Moore anywhere near that level of talent and expertise.
