“Yardbirds- Shapes of Things(1966)”

That’s how I first learned to play it. My sister was one of
those 60’s hippies and had that album. I thought I was being
cool all bebopin around strumming that tune then I moved on
to Deep Purple - Machine Head. The first time I covered Shapes in a band was the way Gary Moore played it.

I don’t think Moore is any better than Beck, Becks was pretty good
on Wired. Jimmy Page was right there with Tommy Bolin,
both being way over rated but they had some good tunes.

Don’t get me wrong... I think Gary Moore is good, I just don’t place him in the same space as Page and Beck. I’d say Moore fits better in the company of players like Robert Cray, though not quite as good as Cray, or maybe someone like Jimmy Vaughan. I’d put Albert Collins above Moore as well, but in the end it’s all a matter of taste. Like I said; I think Moore is good, but Beck he ain’t.

One of the most underrated/unknown guitarists of all time was Danny Gatton. I just can’t personally place Moore anywhere near that level of talent and expertise.
