This morning there was a touchdown animation that took about 2 minutes to load on my browser.

Do you have a link to the touchdown animation?

Find your browser options and turn off loading images automatically or get an image blocker add-on.

Is your computer plugged in? Is your modem plugged in?

Sounds like you need to tall to your internet provider and discuss your problem.
Upgrades in your equipment may make a big in the performance. This is most
likely a user problem and not a sender problem.

I’m sorry you are stuck using 20 year old technology, but exactly why should everyone else on FR be limited by your problem?

I actually don’t usually have problems, but sometimes they are just annoying (if they are literally big).

Last night I had trouble with our iPad, and when on this site noticed a certain ping with animated GIF was posted numerous times - thus, with my iPad acting up, FR would not really ever finish.

As I said, I generally don’t mind unless they “get in the way” (in your face sort of thing), but I can definitely see why some people wouldn’t like it.

Next up: GIGANTIC JPEGs that minimize all the text on the page!

I have fast service but get tired of the same old gag GIFs and other annoying images. I’ve found that blocking the typical sources (right click to see the serving sites) gets rid of about 80% of them. Once in a while I’ll miss something I want to see but not often.

You can turn off loading of images and animations in Preferences. Doubt you’re going to have much luck in getting people to stop posting them.

Please tell me you have an AOL dial up system and you are paying $9.95 a month.

Tell ya what...

Go sit outside a McDonalds to grab their internet. It will run a lot better.

A most reasonable request. Not everyone has 100+ mbps download speeds (like I do). A little consideration would go a long way.

So everybody should be prohibited from posting what they want because you have a poor computer or slow Internet?

Sorry but the world doesn’t work that way

Google Search is a marvelous invention.

Just type in 'how to turn off images in safari'.

Get the Ad Block Plus add-on for your browser.

A lot of junk is blocked for you. Plus, you can add your own custom blocks.

With my limited broadband width, the Internet would be unusable without Ad Block Plus.
