This is a plea from those of us with limited bandwidth. This morning there was a touchdown animation that took about 2 minutes to load on my browser. It was in a thread that was completely unrelated to football or touchdowns. There are an increasing number of animated GIFs showing up that are either unrelated to the topic or superfluous.
Videos like youtube links are automatically blocked from loading until you ask to load them. Those are great and I select a few to click and load. Links to animated GIFs could be replaced with a single frame GIF of the same content although only in some cases.
Animated GIFs are downloaded whether I want them to be or not to be downloaded. Obviously a very large high res static GIF might also chew up some BW, But an animated GIF even medium or low res can have lots of frames and take lots of bandwidth to download. It can be the same (in BW terms) as loading the thread with hundreds of low-res pictures. If someone knows a way to stop those kinds of downloads in Safari, I would like to know that too.
Thanks for listening and for your consideration.
Uh yeah. And there was no nudity or undressing involved.
Also there is a lot of “direct-linking”/”hot linking” of images on FR...bad manners to steal bandwidth from another person’s website. Please host photos on a server you control/own or on a free photo posting site like “Imgur”, “TinyPic”, “Imageshack” or “Photobucket”.

I tend to agree except the large sites including wordpress.com are sized to handle the extra load. Also I would rather not be tracked which people could do on their own servers if they want to. But hypothetically tracking by third party hosting could be worse. For example, I had extreme reservations about posting the threads where photos were hosted on websites in Ukraine (typically news websites but also some others).
The basic problem is that anyone with the logs from the server where the photo is stored can correlate a poster's IP address with their screen name by comparing the times of when the poster posts their post and when they access the photo from the server.
...or huge pics...they make the text on an iPad unreadable ...so small.
And you know it was personal

Those who can’t, look at videos.
True that... it was very nice.

Thank you for your comment. JMHO, but no matter how popular the things might be...at times they do see a bit childish. Found FR long ago on Web TV equipment. Talk about the age of Moses. It took forever to surf w/o all the ‘extras’ that are so majestically bestowed upon us. Faster now w/real puter and broadband but life is never perfect. Thanks again.
use a different browser, you can block images by site and choose which ones to load
Turn off your pics
It’ll be easier for you anyhow
