Apple launches free extended warranty for MacBooks and MacBook Pros with screen issues due to problems with Anti-Reflective Coatings wearing off from use of wrong third-party cleaning solutions. Contact an Apple Genius bar or AppleCare on line if your laptop has such an issue. — PING!

Thanks to dayglored for the heads up!

This refers back to our discussion in July:

Retina MacBook Pro owners plagued by supposed screen coating damage, call on Apple to take action.

Apple has taken action, regardless of the cause of the damage, whether from third-party screen cleaning solvents, or not, Apple has extended a warranty to replace the screens with new screens for free for a three year period from date of original purchase, or one year from October 16, 2015, whichever is longer. . . so, if you have a MacBook with the problem, the clock is ticking for you to get it fixed. If you have already paid for repair, apple will re-imburse you for the repair.

The article mentions that in addition to improper third-party cleaners, some of the screen damage was attributed to:
...the pressure of the MacBook keyboard and trackpad on the display when closed...
For what it's worth, in the 4+ years I've had my beloved Fujitsu Lifebook laptop (Win7 Pro), the only issue I've had with it is exactly that -- the screen has taken some surface wear from the keytops because the lid is slightly bendy. If there had been a special coating on the screen I would have had a similar problem to the MacBooks.

It's damn difficult to have a thin screen lid and not have it contact the keys.
