The operation in Syria -- still relatively limited --has become, in effect, a testing ground for an increasingly confrontational and defiant Russia under Putin.

There aren’t any that aren’t Sunni jihadis who have no intent of creating a secular, Christian and Jew minority protecting, society. Who do you describe as “legitimate”?
They aren't completely "legitimate" they are the ones that Obama supports using weapons that Hilliary and Obama sent them from Libia where that dynamic duo sacrificed 4 Americans in Benghazi to accomplish Valarie Jarrett's Muslim Brotherhood goals.
Being as they are fighting against Putin's buddy, the dictator of Syria.
Russia is also fighting against the Kurds, along with Turkey.
They (the Kurds) are the ones that are fighting for freedom.
Turkey doesn't like them because Turkey occupies a significant portion of Kurdistan.
Obama refused to send good munitions to the Kurds same as he didn't help those fighting the Islamic factions killing Christians.
Obama has no concern if Christians are killed. Even when it is Christian children being raped and killed. Even some have been beheaded and crucified.

Russia has stated several times that the Kurds must be at the table to develop a political solution for Syria.
I know of no instances of attacks by Russia against the Kurds...UNLESS they try to impede Syria reclaiming their minimum essential territory from Aleppo to Damascus.
