The ump can -- and always has -- had the authority to award a double play for interference in a case like this, and unlike FReepers who don't know the rules of baseball, he can -- and always has -- had the authority to disqualify a player WITHOUT WARNING if, in his judgment, the player has made a deliberate attempt to injure.

Fred, how do you award a double play when the short stop didn’t even make the tag of the base to force the runner out, for the first of the two outs?

His second baseman didn’t make a good convertible leading toss, and Tajada had to twist in an attempt to make the conversion.

This was not totally Utley’s fault.
