NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball has suspended Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Chase Utley for Games 3 and 4 of the National League Division Series for what the league deemed was an illegal slide into New York Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada.

Fred, the determination on that first out was over when contact was made. The short stop had already missed the bag going by, and was then setting up to convert a double play attempt.
The runner did not prevent that first out from being made.
It could be assumed the runner did something to break up the throw to first base, and that runner could be called. Two never would in this instance unless the runner had caused the short stop to miss the tag of second base. He didn’t.

This was a very unfortunate accident. I am very sorry that Tajada wont’t be playing in after season games from this point.
I am sorry the Mets fans who certainly like the guy won’t be seeing him play.
This sucks for Tajada and the Mets fans.
The first picture clearly shows what happened. Utley is looking down to touch 2nd base with his left hand but his face connects with Tejada’s knee before he can finish touching the base.

What happened in that play was clear fraud, aided and abetted by some faceless bastard in NYC and all the worse because it was fraud perpetrated after the fact and in clear contradiction of the available evidence.
Even CONGRESS would be outraged at the shenanigans MLB pulled in order to get the Dodgers a win in that game.
If Billy Martin was the manager instead of TINY BALLS TERRY COLLINS, he would be in jail today but not before he beat the hell out of the umpires with a bat and Utley too.
Instead of end of an inning DP and the Mets leading 2-1, the game is tied with runners on first and second and one out?
Utley tackles the shortstop so far outside the basepath , in fact, after he passed second base, gets called out, runs into the dugout, only to have that DRUNK DON MATTINGLTY have the audacity to appeal the out call, and MLB tells the umps to put him back on second?
This is worse than the call Jim Joyce made that cost Gallaraga his perfect game.
That was just incompetence.
THIS WAS MALFEASANCE.
The Dodgers are going to pay.

What about Utley? He plays the game the way it’s ALWAYS been played at second base and he gets SUSPENDED 2 GAMES!!!! It’s 2015 so I’m thinking the rules of baseball are becoming further EMASCULATED TO SET THE STAGE FOR FEMALES TO JOIN THE LEAGUES.

Good clean hard slide. I saw nothing wrong wit it. It was his job to break up a double play.

His hand is right over the bag and his shoulder is already in contact with Tejada.
Tejada set up in a terrible position.
Utley’s knee is in the dirt at the bag, folks, this was a clean play.
