Now that real estate tycoon Donald Trump is running for president, an incident from November of 1991 has resurfaced in which GOP presidential frontrunner actually had his limo stop so he could save a man from a brutal assault by a mugger with a baseball bat.
Trump and his then-wife Marla Maples were riding around New York City in his limousine, headed out to New Jerseys Meadowlands for a Paula Abdul concert, according to the New York Daily News.
Trumps limo was about to enter the Lincoln Tunnel at about 8 p.m. when he saw a big guy with a big bat swinging away at another guy.
What happened next is absolutely incredible!
Trump noticed the victim taking 5 or 6 whacks, knew he was about to be killed and instinctively Trump told the driver to pull the car over.
He leaped out of the car as his wife tugged at his arm trying to stop him, and put himself in potential danger by confronting the mugger directly:
Someone in the car looked over and said, Gee, look at that, its a mugging, Trump said. I said to my driver to stop the car because it was brutal-looking. He got out of the car, with Maples tugging at his coat to get him to stop.
The guy with the bat looked at me, and I said, Look, youve gotta stop this. Put down the bat, Trump said. I guess he recognized me because he said, Mr. Trump, I didnt do anything wrong. I said, How could you not do anything wrong when youre whacking a guy with a bat? Then he ran away.
Kathleen Romeo, a 16-year-old student at the time, noticed that it was Trump that stopped the fight and yelled, Thats Trump!
A lot of people were surprised that he got out to see what was happening, Romeo said. She said that Trump had chased the bat-wielder off before he even got out of the limo and that Trump just looked around and went back into his limo but other witnesses backed up The Donalds story.
All of a sudden, a big long limousine pulls up on an angle, and Donald Trump pops out with the blonde, too, a witness said. There was a guy with a bat, hitting a guy over the head, and Trump yelled, Put that bat down. What are you doing? The guy dropped the bat, came over and started talking to him.
Donald Trump never sought attention for this story. Eyewitnesses confirmed Trumps account according to the Daily News and the publication subsequently contacted him for the story.
Trump, being Trump, told reporters, Im not looking to play this thing up Im surprised you found out about it.
He said afterward, he thought about the help his mother got when she was mugged three weeks before, in which a witness to the attack chased and caught the man who attacked her.
Nice post MinuteGal.
Bat nothing! That was his handbag!
The biggest fight will be on election fraud, like in Allen West case. Also there is NO way Romney could have lost!!!
Some where on Facebook an individual claims Trump’s cap made in China? If not true I like to challenge him of lying!
Trump himself has said the caps are made in America.
That was only days after he started wearing and selling them.
Watch out -- he might start attacking that person with his pitching, or even move on to an attack with his deadly "Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner" golf swing!
The name of the American manufacturing company is on another label along with its area code, phone number and web site address.
The comfortable cap is SO well made (certainly not made in China, good grief!) with rugged, durable material that it will hold up forever....and the "Make America Great Again" logo is stitched on, not cheesy printed-on.
The Facebook moron IS a liar. Do as Trump would do, challenge him to a duel at twenty paces!
Leni
