Towering Inferno was one of the first "grown-up" movies I saw in a theatre. I was about 12 at the time. Seems so long ago. That was an era of disaster movies. "Earthquake" and "Poseidon Adventure" are other ones I remember seeing. Then when "Airplane" came along and made fun of the whole genre, they didn't get made so much anymore.
The real life events of 9/11 pretty much showed that when a fire breaks out in a skyscraper, the results are ugly and the people above the fire are pretty much screwed.

Good movie. I’ve been watching OLD movies on t.v. lately. -
Husband & I quit going to movies years ago; haven’t missed
them. We did go to one of those ape movies two or so years
ago. Don’t know why; don’t like sitting on those seats in
the theater.
