Towering Inferno was one of the first "grown-up" movies I saw in a theatre. I was about 12 at the time. Seems so long ago. That was an era of disaster movies. "Earthquake" and "Poseidon Adventure" are other ones I remember seeing. Then when "Airplane" came along and made fun of the whole genre, they didn't get made so much anymore.

The real life events of 9/11 pretty much showed that when a fire breaks out in a skyscraper, the results are ugly and the people above the fire are pretty much screwed.

If they made it today, all the male roles would be women and the men would be huddled in that elevator, lol.

The old couple would be gay and someone would be trans-something.
