A North Carolina woman says she is happier than ever after she fulfilled her lifelong wish of becoming blind.
Jewel Shuping, 30, has Body Integrity Identity Disorder, according to Barcroft TV.
BIID is a condition in which able-bodied people believe they are meant to be disabled.
She told Barcroft TV that her fascination with blindness started when she was a child.
By the time I was six I remember that thinking about being blind made me feel comfortable, she said.
Shuping says that when she was a teenager, she started wearing thick black sunglasses, and even got her first cane when she was 18.
By the age of 20, Shuping says she was fluent in braille.
I was blind-simming, which is pretending to be blind, but the idea kept coming up in my head and by the time I was 21 it was a non-stop alarm that was going off, she told Barcroft TV.
Her need to lose her sight increased as she got older, and by 2006, she claims she found a psychologist who was willing to help her.
Shuping says the psychologist put numbing eye drops into her eyes, and then a couple of drops of drain cleaner.
It hurt, let me tell you. My eyes were screaming and I had some drain cleaner going down my cheek burning my skin, she said. But all I could think was I am going blind, it is going to be okay.
The woman says it took about half a year for the damage to take full effect.
When I woke up the following day I was joyful, until I turned on to my back and opened my eyes I was so enraged when I saw the TV screen, she told Barcroft TV.
One of her eyes eventually had to be removed, her other eye had glaucoma and cataracts, Barcroft TV reports.
Shuping says she originally told her family it was an accident, but they later found out the truth.
She says her mother and sister have since cut contact.
She told Barcroft TV that she has no regrets and that she hopes to help other blind people live an independent life.
I really feel this is the way I was supposed to be born, that I should have been blind from birth, she said. When theres nobody around you who feels the same way, you start to think that youre crazy. But I dont think Im crazy, I just have a disorder.
According to Barcroft TV, Shuping is hoping her story will help raise public awareness of BIID and encourage people with the condition to seek professional help.
Oh thanks. Now I’m blind.
couldn’t you just close your eyes dumb b****
I’ve heard it all now
Her psychologist has to be held accountable and should receive a serious penalty.
Most shrinks are seeing other shrinks for their problems. Should disqualify them from treating other people.
Why? If seeing a shrink causes one to lose 2a rights, which is what occurs today easily, or mot even seeing one but answering a question that you feel depressed sometimes, then shrinks seeing shrinks for their problems, ought to at least suspend their treatment practices of others.
I must have BIID. I see myself as deserving to be 33 years old, 175 pounds, ripped & lean as a whippet while eating anything I like, for the next 100 years.
It isn’t fair.
What’s the problem...a man thinks he’s a woman cuts off his parts and he’s celebrated.
I think Bruce is actually only playing dress-up.
She says her mother and sister have since cut contact.
Wonder what their response would have been if she announced she wanted to be a guy?
She just doesn’t have political protection like men who feel they are women.
I wonder how many of us had to read “A Miracle Worker” in school, and then pretend to be blind?.
I remember this from either 5th or 6th grade, one kid was Anne Sullivan, one was Helen Keller. The blind kid had to be guided around school for half hour or so by the sighted student, then reversed.
It was so strange being blind. I once lost my electric during a hurricane in the 90s and didn’t have a candle, or flashlight, it was night and the apt was pitch black. That was eerie. Just the sensation of not being able to see,,,,,super scary.
If this woman wished to be blind, she should have just put in a blindfold. Or done a mitzvah and donated her eyes so someone else could see.
Sick in the head.
There is a difference. Jenner's management team presented him with earnings projections if her remained a he and if he went trans-g. Remaining a he earnings in the $2 M area for next five years. Become a tranny and earnings would be in the $10M plus region. The odd, the strange, and the crazy sell especially if sex can be connected to it.
So.....
That means that Bruce Jenner calculated the value of his self-respect and integrity?
I’m sure this sicko could have found plenty of ACTUAL blind people who would’ve lined up to poke her eyes out so she could experience their suffering. I have a brother who lost his sight in his 20s (from juvenile diabetes) and is pushing 50 now. There is nothing glamorous about it; nothing worth romanticizing. Shame on her for making herself look like some poor handicapped person. Think of all the compassion she will get from the people who don’t know the truth about her. Think of the “benefits,” if you will, such as getting to board a plane first. She deserves none of those things. She sure as heck better not be entitled to any disability monies, but I’m sure she’ll get them. Enjoy the government pittance, lady; any REAL blind person will tell you that the “bennies” sure aren’t worth the high price.
I think it would be great if she were denied Social Security Disability payments because her condition is self-inflicted.
You can bet your bottom dollar this woman is living on the dole.
Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.
Numbing Eye Drops!?!
What a poseur!
A admirable woman would not have needed any numbing eye drops!
Anna Karenina
Who also self-mutilated, it must be said.
Think of the cost savings, don’t have to drink as much.
