You grossly underestimate a german shep’s brains, skills ability to make decisions. After owning three in my life, I believe they are the smartest dog out there. Most dependable companion going. Rest assured in the setting, the dog would accept and love the child. Also? Provide a great guardian for safety.
Labs.
They are awesome pooches, for sure.
Loyal and brave to a fault.
One of my dogs is half shep. He’s fiercely protective of the family.
My grandfather somehow ended up with an ex WW2 German Sheppard. Great dog. Great with kids. As long as you, and they, understood that it wasn’t ‘Fluffy the wonder poodle’ and was in fact, a killing machine.
Never turned on anyone.
Agreed.
My sister-in-law and her husband owned a Shepherd for protection. They had to spell words when he was around; he was that smart. And every night, he would go out and do a perimeter check before going to bed.
He was a trained weapon, but with the family, he was a big baby. I remember being there when a repairman visited...he sat on top of my feet, facing the guy and growling, LOL.
I miss that dog.
