Here's the Real Reason Why So Many Women are Single
Mic ^ | 09/16/2015 | Kate Hakala

Posted on 09/21/2015 6:14:44 AM PDT by BJ1

"I know lots of single men," Cara, 26, a resident of Brooklyn, New York, told Mic. "It's just... most are of little or no interest to me as anything other than a hookup."

Tired of old ways: The somewhat revolutionary notion that women are actually deciding not to marry is something that wouldn't be possible if the value of marriage itself hadn't changed drastically over the years.

"When women's life choices were highly constrained, they had little negotiating power," Pepper Schwartz, a sociology professor at the University of Washington, wrote for CNN. "They had to marry or were seen as damaged ... It's different now. While most women still want marriage, they don't want it at just any price. They don't want it if it scuttles their dreams."

That, in part, is due to marriage no longer being a must for women's social and financial standing. "I don't think hookup culture is damning for long-term commitment," Lisa, 27, said. "I think it's a response to the large obsolescence of marriage as an institution for women. We don't need to be economically or socially dependent on men."

That carries out through the numbers. Compared to their grandparents' generation, millennial women are significantly more likely to have a bachelor's degree and be a part of the labor force.

"I think a lot of us just don't think marriage is that important because it doesn't offer the security it once did," Norah, 27, told Mic. "It's not as necessary anymore because I can work. I can support myself."

....

It's not that there aren't enough men to explain waning marriage stats — there also aren't enough women who want to walk down the aisle.

“They are not living lives they deem worthy of passing on.”

Ding, ding, ding. Have you noticed or are you old enough to have noticed that laughter is becoming a strange and unusual sound? I grew up working in the hot sun of South Carolina and there was more laughter and general camaraderie among people picking cotton together, even if they didn’t really know each other, than is ever heard now. I mean REAL laughter, belly shaking laughter, the kind of laughter that eases physical pain and drives away demons. No little snickers. Does anyone even know what side splitting laughter means anymore? Has anyone on this forum other than I myself ever laughed until it actually hurt? Sure we use things like ROFLMAO but how many have ever actually rolled on the floor laughing? I have but it was surely a long, long time ago.

Since my early 20[s I never liked going with dirty sluts now knowing where she had been a few hours earlier. Guess I got some morals after being 20

The direction society has drifted concerning male/female relationships deciding whether or not to get married is one of the few areas the guys have any legal authority at all.

So, I'm not buying the writer's thesis.

All find and dandy while they’re in their 20s, like most things.
Then they hit their 30s and things start to slow down.
Then they hit their 40s and their creeping along in a granny gear.

All the while, the guys are still hitting the 20 year olds.

There is no shame now it is mind boggling. I never can understand why a 19, 20 year old want babies. We had so much fun at that age. None of my friends had babies unmarried at that age. I knew less than a handful of pregnant girls in my High School in Yonkers. If they were they left and it was kept low keyed. Not like today they parade their disgusting behavior around 20, 21 year old no college no future no contribution to society.

A lot of it, too, is the romanticization of “single motherhood” and same-sex relationships.
You see these never-married women with one or more kids or flirting with LAG (lesbians after graduation), and when they announce their status, in whatever venue, they act as if they are letting us all know they work with lepers. Slight hesitation, eyes shyly downward: “I’m a single mother ... “.
Applause sign.

The “single motherhood” martyrs are as big a sham as “hot lesbian” couples. The reality is, they either work two or three jobs and pay too much for child care—or allow the rest of us to raise their kids.
And two brides isn’t Ellen Degenerate and her flavor of the month in People magazine, but two beached whales (long tongues, ability to breathe through holes in their heads) with looks that could scare a buzzard off a gut wagon.

You `ladies’ who wanted this kind of “liberation” ... well, you got it.
But no man because we’re not clapping.

The man who didn't marry her is lucky, as she only thinks of marriage as a parasitical financial arrangement.

My daughter is 30 earns a six figure salary and so wants to get married. But she is so tired of waiting around to meet a man that wants to get married like her, that she is quitting her job in 2 weeks and going to SE Asia for 6 months or more.

Women are single because women have emasculated men to the point they are no longer manly.

We also have an entitled society of both men and women that refuse to accept gender roles within their respective relationships.

Because marriage offers so much more than sex. After celebrating 28 years with my lovely wife, I would not be single again for a billion dollars!

Both are true. Millennial are the first generation where most of them did not have a stay at home mom. They don’t know how wonderful a family works with one person stoking the home fires, with one person really focusing on the family and their needs and even their entertainment.

And both girls don’t see men as necessary for survival and boys don’t see staying true to one woman a good deal any more.

When you fix something that wasn’t broken, you ruin it. I don’t know what these coming generations will do in order to raise children to be strong secure individuals. They will all spend more time with poorly paid teachers and nannies than is good for our kind of society.

That is because people can’t tell jokes or people are offended by such utter little mentions of something.

Hell when I hold the door open for someone and they don’t say thank you I shout out thank you to them to remind them of their manners,. Have you noticed how it is not just laughing ,but also manners, saying hello , or being friendly

quote “If you don’t marry well within a scant 10 year window (which really isn’t long), options and benefits dwindle fast.”

BINGO.

And since college falls within the 10 year window, where you go or where you send your kids to can make all the difference.

I am of the opinion that the most important aspect of college is not the education your get but the opportunity you are given to meet a quality mate which will make all the difference.

Well, if they are an over educated, intellectually vain, easy, selfish, urban liberal woman, they answer to why one is single is simple - hypergamy.

Had another article very similar to this one lately.

Amen. Your post is great!
Husband & I have been married 51 years yesterday (9/20), & it is true that “life is simply easier when there are two to carry the burden or share the joys over the long journey we call life”. - It ain’t perfect; there have been struggles, quarrels, fights & fusses - but NOTHING’S perfect.
