How far does 'moral obligation' go?

In tonight's under card debate, Lindsay Graham stated: "we have a moral obligation" to take in the illegal immigrants and Syrian refugees.

How far does this moral obligation go? Does it give us military options?

When I see Lindsay letting a family of illegals move onto his estate (and not as housekeepers or gardeners), then I’ll believe he really thinks we have a “moral obligation”.

Linda and his ilk don’t seem to understand that their only obligation is to the American people first and foremost and then to our allies who support us. We have no obligations to anyone else although we can be charitable as long as it does not violate our obligations to put the interests of the American people squarely and always first.

As far as taking Muslim refugees, I say or moral obligation is nil.

We feed the hungry and clothe the naked. That doesn't mean we let them camp out in our daughter's bedroom.

Misguided 'moral obligations' end up subsidizing bad behaviour. If these people will live free, they have an army of people who can take their country back.

No, we do not. We need to take care of our own and that goes for our vets.

BLUF:

We did not directly create the problem. We have no immediate interest in the area. We haven’t directly encouraged either side of the problem.

Therefore we have no moral obligation to do anything about the problem.

Notice I said DIRECTLY. It is your direct participation, or lack thereof, that creates any kind of moral problem.

Senator Graham, and his ilk, need to back off this totally unrealistic concept of the US having a moral obligation to do something. If they want to do something individually great; but, do not include me.

I have seen up close and very personally what happens when you mount your white charger and go out on a moral campaign to “spread democracy”, “abolish slavery”, and things like that. It is not pretty. And we, the United States of America, spend our current and future national treasure (our soldiers’ lives) for nothing. We don’t even end up with any kind of gratitude from the people we tried to help.

Sen. Lindsey Graham is 100% wrong, 100% of the time. Apparently, so, is south Carolina.

We have NO moral obligation to those “refugees.”

None.
Zero.
Zilch.

The ONLY valid question is “What do those people bring with them that the Republic and its Citizens want and/or need?”

"we have a moral obligation" to take in the illegal immigrants

No, we don't. We have a moral OPPORTUNITY to show mercy and compassion to suffering people, but we are under no moral OBLIGATION to do so.

And to the degree these people aren't really refugees but criminals masquerading as victims, we don't owe them diddly squat.

Smokin' Joe :" We feed the hungry and clothe the naked.
That doesn't mean we let them camp out in our daughter's bedroom."

..and then when our daughter is attacked for 'alledged' provocation ,
instead of telling them to leave,
we have a 'moral obligation' tell them that they can stay in the living room (?) as Linda would have us to beleive.

We have very strong reasons to suspect the 'refugees' are here BECAUSE a fair percentage of them mean us harm.
We can be compassionate but can't be naive and stupid about it.
We have two choices:
Send them all back.
Or vet them carefully with long unpleasant interrogations. Every one. Let them earn a place here by giving us information.
Especially the military age males.
Anyone not willing to answer questions or if they give the wrong answers, send them back.

We don't have any duty to let them in, we DO have a duty to not endanger our own population in the process.

He who does not take care of his own family is worse than an unbeliever.
Take care of the poor within your own gates first.

Per every Judeo-Christian ethos, we have the obligation to take care of the 80 million Americans out of the work force. Even if that number is inflated by a return of the housewife and baby boomer retirements, 40 MILLION Americans should get priority in welfare and work over people who share neither our culture or our blood.

We haven’t even finished assimilating all the illegal aliens here to work who at least share a language and culture with a large minority in the country, and who are taxing our welfare system and charitable network. And they are already HERE.

I'm closer to Clint Eastwood: "Get off my lawn!"

There are enough of them they could fight the problems at home. I wonder how many are 'ex' military? Those could likely train the rest.

From the images I have seen at the Hungarian border, there are very few women and children (although guys in hoodies might occasionally look like they are wearing a hijab). I didn't see many old folks, either--most appear to be males of service age.

you can make this argument to take in the world population. it could be made to keep illegals here and allow more to come in.

lg needs to go back to sc.

We have a moral obligation to NOT take them in.

To the Christians. Otherwise no obligation what so ever. Arm the Kurds and give them air support tell the rest they better fight for themselves.

I am not required to commit suicide to make you feel good

NO MORE IMMIGRANTS (at least until all the drug cartels and muslims are dead and gone)

It’s odd that Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the other Arab countries surrounding Syria and Iraq do not have a moral obligation to take in citizens from a neighboring country, but we do. My vote: stop the migrants, send them home to protect their own land, and let Russia restore stability in Syria (not occupy, just wipe out ISIS and then leave so that Assad can govern).
