IRVING — Ahmed Mohamed — who makes his own radios and repairs his own go-kart — hoped to impress his teachers when he brought a homemade clock to MacArthur High on Monday.

Instead, the school phoned police about Ahmed’s circuit-stuffed pencil case.

this is ridicules. the kid was just being a kid caught up in his own world. I think the only thing the kid was thinking was that he wanted to show off what he had done. the school was properly cautious in calling the police but it is crazy talk saying that it was a test run for tearoom. If he is Muslim I hate his religion but you cant evaluate a situation on what you think of a culture or religion . in life you should treat everyone how you want to be treated

In life you should treat everyone how you want to be treated.

That's how it is -- and should be -- 99% of the time. But with mooselimbs, it's a different matter entirely. The Golden Rule does not apply to those creatures whose only aim is to kill those who don't follow their satanic belief system.

Let me pose this hypothetical question to all following this thread. Suppose this kid were a Palestinian and brought the homemade clock to a school in Israel. What would the reaction have been there?

Sometimes, a clock is just a clock.

And sometimes a box cutter is just a box cutter.

Your supposition fails. Israel vets everyone that enters the country and erected a wall to make sure of that.

Try your fail again.

Well, I guess we’ll see how this shakes out. I’m sure the Irving ISD had somebody inspect the bag.

Okday, let's this scenario then. It's pre-9/11. Hard to imagine now but there was such a time. You're flying out of D/FW and seated next to you is that muzzie family from Irving, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed and his kid. Young Ahmed opens his school bag and you see a device that looks like the "invention" shown in the newspaper's site video. How would you react?

Everything I've been able to determine seems to favor what the school did. As for a toy cap gun, not a problem as far as I'm concerned but with the key caveat that a muzzie isn't the one bringing it. The simple reality is they're not to be trusted...anywhere...anytime.

Uh... we’re talking about a public school. The very same public schools that expel children for pointing fingers, chewing poptarts, or saying “bang bang” with chicken nuggets.

Exactly.

The real villains in this story are the mentally retarted school district employees who can't tell the difference between a swirl of water in a flushing toilet and a category 5 hurricane.

The muslim kid was just being a kid, not a muslim.

Every school district employee even remotely associated with this story should be fired. They are all stealing from the taxpayers. Felony class stealing.

I don't know what others here were "suggesting", but personally, I do think the school over-reacted.

The only thing that could save them in this, is if this kid had a history of making big Allah-akbar noises, and talking smack, you know, like the wack-job Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan who was a ticking time bomb. All the signs were there, for that one. It wasn't a case of 'sudden' Jihad, anymore than it was simply 'workplace violence' as the Bronco Bamma B.S. artist Admin put it.

In comparison, the geeky kid is probably just a geeky kid.

I think the school teachers over-reacted to their own, less than rationally based fears.

Just days after? But how old is this kid? The article said he was in 9th grade, didn't it? He probably wasn't even born yet, on Sept. 11, 2001.

His perspective of the world is likely far different (and much more limited) than my own, or yours.

As another asked ---- 'are you a retard'?

The way you've gone about it is like spraying and praying with a semi-auto bb-gun look-a-like to the real thing, as if you were trying to force 'profiling' itself to be banned in the near future.

Profiling needs not, and should not have much to do with racial considerations alone, in order to be most effective as a tool, which tool if properly applied, can be used to help identify impending tragedy before it occurs.

First -- check to see if you have an ice-cream cone stuck to your forehead. If not, that could be a sign you haven't gone FULL retard, so congratulations. You get one of those little stars. Hurrah, you may now have a pop-tart, also.

Isn't life wonderful?

I agree with crazieman, you are a retard. As retarded as the school district employees in this story I reference in the previous post.

And here I thought De Plane no longer flies to Fantasy Island.

You should be forced to wear one of those over-sized bicycle helmets whenever there is likelihood of yourself getting close to ice-cream in any form...

But in these times with a device featuring an LED display and accompanied by a muzzie, to me that clock appears to be far more than a clock.

You are wrong. There was no red wire, ergo not a bomb.

The muslim kid was just being a kid, not a muslim.

They never stop being what they are. Here's another telling line from the article:

Council on American-Islamic Relations [CAIR] is once again eyeing claims of Islamophobia in Irving.

Given the father's background, it's not too far of a stretch to think this was deliberate act of provocation. Just days after 9/11, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed sends his kid, Ahmed, off to school in Texas (where we're overrun with muzzies and mosques) with a homebrew device that could be mistaken for a bomb by a casual observer.

Like everyone else on this thread, I have a low regard for public schools. But, that said, the Irving PD obviously thought the yute's contraption looked like a bomb as well and fingerprinted him at the detention center.

By the time they arrested him they absolutely knew it wasn’t a bomb, right? So how smart are the cops?

I remember being a kid and thinking I owned the world as a supergenius because I replaced a capacitor.

He fixes radios by thinking!

Sounds like a bright kid who needs a challenge and better teachers.

Given that the kid at the center of this incident, Ahmed Mohamed, is a muzzie and his father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, is likewise, it changes the whole equation in my mind. Had he been a real American, I'd be on board with all of you in agreeing that the Irving ISD over-reacted. But when islam is involved, it's a different story. At the risk of offending those who see it otherwise, yes, I honestly think it's wise to discriminate against those who are islam, a satanic death cult. And I make no apologizes for my bias against that "religion" and its members.

At this point of the morning, I thank you all for what's been a largely civil discussion. On this matter, we shall remain divided but I do appreciate the give and take.

Forgot to add, a good night (or good morning) to everyone. My store-bought tableside LED clock — not a bomb — tells me it’s time for Zzzzz. :)

Look, re_nortex, I am not here to defend Islam. I hate Islam. In my mind it is a greater evil than communism. But you have to be smart about it. This was just a stupid move all the way around. If they really suspect something about this family they should investigate, low-key. But to arrest a kid for a pencil box clock... that’s school district employees and cops being stupid. In this case I worry more about the waste of tax payer dollars on nincompoops than I do the threat of Islam. Which is a threat. I grant you.

You better call the school district—a sneaky Muslim might have planted that clock there. Ya never can tell.
