Michael Edwards, 29, was booked on Aug. 5 with sexual battery and battery of a police officer after the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office said he attacked deputies charged with his jailing and transport in two separate incidents. Criminal District Court sentenced him to six months in jail after finding him in contempt of court Sept. 9, after he spat at her during his arraignment on a sexual battery charge. The Judge ordered his mouth bound but the deputies did not follow her orders. I would have at least had a talk with the officers in chambers, and made sure the Sheriff knew that if orders were not followed, another department would be up to the task.
