The channel shared a detailed plan with staffers on Wednesday morning. About 50 of the channel's 1,400 employees will be leaving.
The plan calls for a singular focus "on our unique strength -- and that is the weather."
With the cable channel bundle coming under increasing pressure, and "skinny bundles" becoming more common, "it's inevitable that channels will be cut," Weather Company CEO David Kenny said in an interview.
With this in mind, "we need to be really clear who we are," Kenny said.
That means paring back its original programming investments (shows like "Prospectors" and "Fat Guys in the Woods") and lifestyle coverage. The priority is essential, live weather coverage -- particularly during periods of severe weather -- and local information.

The Weather Channel has 1400 employees????
I know we only see a handful of people on camera, and there are people behind the scenes. But they have over a thousand people???? For one simple cable channel????
They’re starting to finally realize you can get the weather on your smart phone.
I have found the weather channel less than reliable and up to date when seeking the current weather forecast.
Maybe the idea of a TV channel for weather is an idea whose time has come and gone, in the era of smart phone real time information????
The future of the channel is clouded.

Or will it still be the global warming drumbeat followed by feely good puff pieces about mother gaia, some fluff about storms, more global warming crap and maybe some actual weather related stuff possibly after this commercial?

I have a hard time figuring how a snoozer cable channel has that many people.
The SCETV network statewide topped out at about 400 or so. Not many left now from what I hear of the survivors. I escaped from there years ago.
But mostly advertisers. LOL.

Is Weather Nation giving them a run for their money? As for TWC females best likeablity and professionalism goes to Jen Carfagno. Overall the WTC does a real good job on the weather. They just need to shed the fluff leftist news crap and stupid shows. Sam the gay was a very nice guy on the show at least.
What winter storms? I thought the wever channel declared glow-bull climate discombobulation had put an end to those evil polar express type storms. That seems to be the major push for them. I quit watching the TWC a long time ago because of it. Yes, I am a DENIER!

Stopped by it once to get weather, saw nothing but global warming scare pieces and supposed globwarm facts.
Pulled up my phone and went to a wunderground.com for my weather.
