Windows 10 adoption is going really well, stats show.
Microsoft has an ambitious goal of bringing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017, and while that might sound like a really big number, the early adoption figures of the new operating system show that Redmond has all the chances in the world to meet the expectations.
New reports coming from Petri reveal that Windows 10 has already been installed on 81 million PCs in the world, up from the 75 million figure we received a couple of weeks ago. This is impressive since Windows 10 was released just one and a half months ago.
This means that Windows 10 is growing by around 5 million installs every 10 days, so theres no doubt that adoption of the operating system is going according to Microsofts plan.
Analysts estimate Windows 10 will land on 100 million PCs by the end of the month, and given the current figures, this is indeed possible. If this short-term goal is achieved, Microsoft is well positioned to go for the 1 billion devices running Windows 10 dream and hit that milestone even sooner than 2017.
Some still waiting to get the free upgrade
Whats interesting is that some users are yet to get the upgrade to Windows 10, so these numbers are very likely to continue growing in the coming months, as more PCs are finally provided with a direct path for installing the operating system.
The software giant is making Windows 10 available to PCs worldwide in stages, as it first wants to check for compatibility issues, and only after fixing these, the company can proceed to actually deliver the upgrade bits to these computers.
Right now, theres no timing for the completion of the rollout, but given the fact that the free Windows 10 upgrade window lasts until July 2016, expect everyone to receive the new operating system by the end of the year. Obviously, theres always the possibility of installing Windows 10 with the media creation tool, but remember than an upgrade is absolutely needed for successful activation.
Just click on the arrow icon (the >) in the right-side center of that screen, to see what the explanation is for what is holding you back. There are about 5 screens to click through and read, doing that. Come back and tell us what it says. Then, click on the Notify me when ready box, lower left, of course.
Clicking thru the 5 screens just displays the talking points of W10.
I've previously reserved my copy of W10...multiple times.
Using the Menu bars in upper left, I can display these screens:
Automatic installs probably accounts for 90% of that. My “windows 10 experience” thus far tells me that the only thing good about Windows 10 is that it is not Windows 8 (don’t know about 8.1, as I rolled back to Windows 7 after my first exposure to 8.0).
Unfortunately, my home desktop with “7” began to die (intermittent failure to boot....requiring a total (as in unplug it) hard reset), and I needed to replace it. Home Depot had some nice Dells on sale for Labor Day, which came with “10” pre-installed. I got all the programs and data moved over, and THAT machine turned out to be flaky. So I swapped it for another of the same model, and am now up and running.
Believe me.....Windows 10 and its new “apps” suck wind....badly!
I bought an Acer recently with preinstalled 7 and I turned off my updater.
GREAT!! It looks like they found no problems with your machine, so just manually run Windows Update, and it should install. If it is a laptop, make sure it is hooked up to the battery charger, so it does not run down half way through the process.
Be sure to select all updates, including any optional ones, when you run Windows Update.
I always check for optional updates.
Sigh, I guess I have no choice but wait to get contacted.
One last question...
I did find this option to force the W10 download - does it look OK to you? (Links to both the web text version and also the YouTube video version)

Thanks again for your help - truly appreciated.
I had the same message and forced the update.
The method I found had an edit for the registry in the beginning instead of deleting a folder. The last part looks the same.
It worked well for me.
I think they are waiting because you may need a driver that the original vendor hasn’t bothered to write an update for Windows 10.
That looks fine to me! However, at the link I am posting here is what I did, to force the Windows 10 update to run on my desktop. (It had downloaded it, but it would not run.) I just did, what did NOT work for the guy who posts this blog: https://ascariztips.wordpress.com/ascariz-tips/how-to-fix-solve-the-repeatedly-80240020-windows-10-installation-error/
In any case: Good luck, my friend!
