I drove up the Going-To-The-Sun-Highway once.

Ended up in Canada.

Who knew Canada was the sun?

"That’s a scary road in GOOD weather!"

You got that right. Ten years ago the wife and I were in the park driving down the road leading up to the mountain. We saw some things glinting in the sun on the mountain. We said to ourselves that couldn't be cars...there's no way cars could be up that high. We wuz wrong!!! It was cars.

We made it over successfully, but it was hairy. I was driving and one time I asked my wife to describe some of the scenery. She couldn't do it...she was looking straight ahead and too scared to look out the side window.

But we’re in the beginning of the most recent warmest month EVER.
(June was put out as being warmest ever, then July, August. Waiting on September being listed as such.)

Snow in September...on the Going-to-the-Sun- Highway?

Pfft!

I have a picture of my father, taken on the 5th day of August, 1984, forming a snow ball to throw at me, at the top of the Highway.

It was a sweltering 72 degrees, but the snow was still there and wasn't melting much, either.

According to some of the old timers around the area, tweren't no big deal.

I went through Rabbit Ears Pass on the 11th of June, 1983...it snowed 4 inches and the temp went to 18 degrees.

Nobody thought it was very unusual.
