I thought Treasure Island was home to a Naval Station? The flat "island" is all fill and it was used to house navy/military families. My close encounter with it was asbestos litigation regarding the stucco and drywall used during construction and the resulting mesothelioma lawsuits.

The island being discussed is near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge no where near Treasure Island to the south which anchors the Oakland-SF Bay Bridge.

My dad studied sonar and radio there in ‘44 and/or early ‘45. He told great stories about pinging ships in the bay. He shipped out as part of the Japan invasion force, but got occupation duty after the bombs dropped and Japan surrendered.
