What Will Nancy Pelosi Make Boehner Do to Save His Speakership?

When someone challenges the Speaker of the House (by a technical procedure known as declaring the office of the speakership "vacant"), usually the leadership holds what is basically a vote of confidence immediately to show that a majority of the members still support the Speaker. Otherwise it raises doubts about whether the Speaker still has the support of the majority of the members.

But that's not what happened when Rep. Mark Meadows declared the office of the speaker vacant in late July in protest against the accomodationist policies of Speaker John Boehner. The House didn't hold any kind of vote at all, and the delay is telling.

Meadows, one of 24 members who at the beginning of this Congress voted for a Republican alternative to Boehner alongside one—Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX) who voted “present,” which was technically a meaningless vote—believes it’s safe to assume that that 25 members will vote once again to remove Boehner as Speaker of the House should he bring his motion to vacate the chair up as a privileged resolution in the fall. At least three more—Reps. Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID), Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC), and Rep. Matt Salmon (R-AZ)—have publicly pledged they will join him. Several more, including major power player conservatives, have behind the scenes promised they will not support Boehner’s re-election as Speaker.

If every member of the House is present and votes, then the benchmark for Boehner to lose re-election is that 29 Republicans must vote to get rid of him - assuming no Democrats vote for Boehner.

From the day he arrived, Boehner made it clear that out lobbyists wouldn’t get past his receptionists until we wrote out checks for the maximum amounts allowed and that if we wanted consideration for our legisaltive initiatives, those checks had better keep coming.

He demanded invitations to Realtor conventions at locations where he could play golf. Boehner cares more for golf than he does for the needs of his constituents. In 2009, his campaign fund spent $82,998 for golf outings for himself and his cronies.(Click For More)

A September 2010 New York Times story said Boehner was "Tightly Bound to Lobbyists" and "He maintains especially tight ties with a circle of lobbyists and former aides representing some of the nation’s biggest businesses, including Goldman Sachs, Google, Citigroup, R.J. In June 1995, Boehner distributed campaign contributions from tobacco industry lobbyists on the House floor as House members were weighing how to vote on tobacco subsidies. In a 1996 documentary by PBS called The People and the Power Game, Boehner said "They asked me to give out a half dozen checks quickly before we got to the end of the month and I complied. And I did it on the House floor, which I regret. I should not have done. Boehner sobs when others are celebrating. It’s something deeper: Boehner cries for Boehner. In 2010, for instance, Boehner cried because he won an award from the anti-abortion group Americans United for Life. In exactly the same way he cried about not being able to see kids at school because he longs for them to achieve the American dream like he did, Boehner’s reaction to the award was purely narcissistic: He seemed to be crying about his own childhood and the pain he felt in his own youth, not for the constituency that gave him the award: “I have 11 brothers and sisters,” he blubbered, “I know it wasn’t convenient for my mom to have 12 of us, but I’m sure glad they’re all here.”(Read more Here)

I have emails concerning Boehner's crying. I am trying to find a source to verify those. It is said that Boehner has been coached. He has been given "acting lessons" as it were. His "crying" is as phoney as everything else he does.

The question is what can he do for conservatives to save his Speakership?
Defunding Planned Parenthood is popular but is really a law enforcement matter.
I think holding the sequestration levels would be enough, but I don’t think he will.

The republicans that vote against boner already have a big GOPe target for elimination on their backs. If boner can’t get more support from others in the GOP, the Pelosi will provide the votes.

The anti-boner bunch might as well form their own caucus- the backbone party. Since boner always plays hardball against them by shutting them out of every committee, they probably would exercise more power as independents. They would be in better position to resist the chamber of amnesty on illegal immigration, and secret trade deals.
