Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said on Tuesday that his agency is looking for “creative ways” to give public school students access to more meals, including a way to provide them breakfast, lunch and dinner year round.

“We have focused on efforts to try to figure out ways in which we can expand in those time periods when youngsters may not have access to school meals,” Vilsack said in remarks at the liberal Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C. That includes giving students access to meals “across the school day, across the school year and across the calendar year,” he said. […]

Vilsack spoke ahead of the Sept. 30 expiration date for federally funding the Healthy, Hungry-Free Kids Act of 2010, which pays for USDA’s school meal and child nutrition programs—including the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), the National School Lunch Program, the School Breakfast Program, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program. …

Little by little they push themselves into every aspect of life. The end goal is complete control of everything

I should enroll my family in public school. I’ll never have to go shopping again!

Not to worry, mom, dad and then all the relatives are next.

This means more public workers and more due paying public employee union members. Bigger budgets for bigger bureaucracies.

The government will be competing with our dollar for food. This will push up the cost of food which is already too high.

They’re already calling those “migrants” in Europe. Wonder what word they’ll use next?

Same thing they call invaders here .... "undocumented entrants."

If the schools want to feed them year round, breakfast and lunch and dinner, do they also want to do weekends?
If so, why do we bother with WIC and SNAP for the families?

That could be their stepping stone to more “consolidation” as they like to call it, indeed.

Well, they will have built up a good appetite after communist indoctrination class, racial grievance class, insurgency drills, and urban warfare exercises.

A government powerful enough to give you everything is powerful enough to take it all away.

And we’ve seen both in action, far more than in previous years.

This needs to disparaged and widely shamed.

People eating on the government coin need to be shunned.

We have districts that did this all summer and no one showed up, people would have been embarrassed.

That’s right; a friend that worked in a black urban district here in NJ described the fury of BLACK teachers that free breakfasts were being provided to children. They understood that the children were there for an education, and that there was already almost no parental involvement with the children to begin with; it was clear to them that these kids were simply urban livestock and part of a jobs mill benefiting someone else.

I think that is the whole idea; liberals feel the worst place for kids is around their parents/nuclear families (and that goes tenfold for black children, whose parents they hold in utter contempt).

The Dems’ goal is a workforce 100% employed by the government; they then determine who works and who doesn’t, and can use their favorite criteria (race & gender) to ensure their desired outcome.

I actually thought these programs were put on the backburner as the money dried up; here in NJ towns are still laying off workers because there is no more revenue and our tax increases are capped. As long as the public schools are open and teachers are getting raises much larger than the private sector workers who pay them, each year towns have to cut other positions to pay those teachers.

Our nation has a generous to parents with children Food Stamp program that should feed them supper. As well many churches and private agencies have food banks.

This looks more like the last step perhaps before public schools house kids and "Allow" parental visits at designated times. If anyone says it won't happen they are mistaken. A school system employee, a state employee, or county worker, can sign your daughter out of school without your knowledge or permission and take them for birth control or an abortion and never tell you. But they go one step further the health records if you do find out are sealed.

This so called system can not be fixed but rather citizens on a local level, government on a local and state level, must begin reclaiming what domain is rightfully theirs. Schools by local laws should be forbidden to do acts like what I mention behind parents backs and sheriffs need to step up and arrest offenders and prosecutors prosecute officials for kidnapping and abuse of a minor as well as felony act against a minor by an authority figure.

So what are the families getting EBT cards for? It is NOT the responsibility of all taxpayers to feed the lazy bums, druggies, and those who choose to render themselves unemployable. And if you saw school food, you’d retch. I personally watch half of it dumped into the nearest garbage cans, while the students eat junk food from vending machines or sneak out for junk burgers.

"supper" -- I had to look up that word. Regional usage?

Supper may refer to, on largely class-based distinctions, either a late-evening snack (working and middle class usage) or else to make a distinction between "supper" as an informal family meal (which would be eaten in the kitchen or family dining room) as opposed to "dinner", a generally grander affair (either or both in terms of the meal and the courses within the meal itself), which would be eaten in the best dining room, could well have guests from outside the household, and for which there might be a dress code.
