The building in the foreground is covered with spam. Guess that’s because it’s next to the tracks. Some things never change.

Indeed...yett I do find reading this subject matter in 150+ year old print - fascinating, especially given the impact of petroleum -

Here's a past & present photo. The hospital where I was born.

Bethany-Deaconess Hospital, Brooklyn, New York. Now an apartment building.

Any chance you can give us the modern day location? Nearest street corner?

Google street view doesn’t show an address but the spot it was taken from is now a cemetary on West State street in Hanover Michigan. The church that was there sat right behind the little brick veterans memorial at the front of the cemetary.

Today is my mother’s birthday. She was born Aug. 21 in 1913 and died last year at 101. For her 100th birthday, I had a book made up of the front pages of the Washington Post for 100 years. Her hometown newspaper was not available. It was interesting to see the headlines of the day for 100 years.

Definitely interested.

I make a policy when I visit a new area to visit the local library or historical society.

I always ask for surname files and local newspapers.

Most information is still at the local level in spite of the internet.

I have been overwhelmed by the information I have been able to find in the local newspapers.

I have worked with genealogists who are very very good at tracking down the real information re parents and grandparents but there are some things they never can find in the official documents.

I found that my g.g.grandfather had a second marriage with a spinster. It’s wasn’t known among the family and it’s certainly not noted in the family bible. I found a small note in a local newspaper. Also, the obituaries usually list all the children, so it fills in a lot of blanks between the ten year census gap.

That almost looks like a recreation. You ought to see if you can take a photo showing how your town has changed into the modern era.
