Check Google — “safer updater”

Some info here:

http://www.freefixer.com/library/file/SaferUpdater.exe-191623/

SaferUpdater.exe?

What is SaferUpdater.exe?

SaferUpdater.exe is part of Safer Updater and developed by Safer Technologies, Inc. according to the SaferUpdater.exe version information.

SaferUpdater.exe’s description is “Safer Updater”

SaferUpdater.exe is usually located in the ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Safer Technologies\Updater\’ folder.

Do you run something called Safer Browser? It seems to be something associated with that program.

[Google: Safer Technologies, Inc.]

Sounds like spyware. Uninstall it through the control panel.

given you are now using an unsupported system your future ability to keep things running and working right will get harder and harder

bout the best i can say is that this is (generally) not a virus program, but now causes a problem as there is no longer support for XP, and so, what can the updater update?

the programmers who wrote this dont think about the end of the life of their work, so these updaters keep working to update long after the software companies stop supporting or allowing them. Adobe is one of those companies, their updater keeps going despite it cant update CS5 or some others, and Adobe has not seen fit to send something to neutralize it as, i guess, they want you to buy into their cloud bs and so on..

and it is bs... can you imagine gouing through some tough spot in life, cant pay for a few momnths and wham... 10 years of work and images and files go south into the memory hole without being able to be recovered? think hard on that before you get all excited about cloud... if that stuff was on hard drives at home, you could not pay and it would sit for years... but with cloud, your life can be erased once you stop paying, even if its for a short while

anyway the software that is giving you issue is locate ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Safer Technologies\Updater\’ folder
and is SaferUpdater.exe

you can boot up in safe mode, go to the directory, and delete the file... then when the computer restarts the service that calls this up cant run it, and it just doesnt run. you can also kill the service, but like some of the new microsoft things, the service may wake up again.

this is why i tend to remove the module itself. wake up all it wants if the code to run isnt there, there isnt much the system can do about it.

you probably cant delete it in a normal boot because the service holds onto it at boot and will say its in use.

Safer Updater is a virus. It will not deinstall using its own deinstaller. It will not deinstall using add/remove Programs at the Control Panel. I can’t get rid of the f&^%$#g thing. Any other suggestions?

Sounds like a “PUP” (Potentially Unwanted Program). Have you scanned with Malware Bytes yet? It’s usually quite effective with this kind of thing,
