You Can Now Buy Shotgun Shells Designed Specifically For Shooting Down Drones

I’ll say this right here at the beginning: Shooting a drone out of the sky is probably a bad idea. But, if you’re dead set on taking down one of those unmanned flying camera copters, Snake River Shooting Products makes a shotgun shell made for that specific purpose.

The packaging says, “Prepare for the drone apocalypse!” which is either a joke or a really alarmist thing to make people feel paranoid. The shells are full of #2 steel shot, which is rather big, meaning that hitting a drone from a reasonable range with one of these would likely reduce it to a pile of smashed electronics.

It’s interesting to see some commenters noting that a smaller gauge shot would actually give you a better chance of disabling the rotors and then selling the intact electronic guts like the camera.

Luckily, you’re not totally out of luck if that apocalypse never comes buzzing around our heads. From the website,” As a side note, the round also makes for a very high end hunting load for ducks, geese or turkeys.” So, if the turkey apocalypse happens, you're good then, too.

The net part was my idea too, a lightweight net packed into a shotgun shell, weighted around the edges so it has some throw weight and will open to a circle. Like the round cast nets used to get bait fish.

A lot of neighborhoods do not lend themselves to shot, steel or otherwise.

We have had steel shot in our shotguns for decades.

I had a Rem Semi Auto that shoots 3 inch Goose Duck steel loads.

I would wait until my hunting buddies or sons emptied their normal 12’s at over head geese and hammer them out of the sky with my weapon.

It should reach out and touch drones within its long range.

How about an anti drone drone. A killer attack drone.
I wonder what the fuzz would do about that.

That's only a matter of time too.

It’s a joke. No need to pick it apart for accuracy.

“Then you pick up the offending machine and take it to your local police department.”

Why? They will either keep it and take it home like they do
cash and guns or turn around and use it on someone else.
Sell it like I do when I find someones deer stand and
feeder on my property. I sell them at the feed store
in town.

With enough water pressure, a long way.
You’d need a big motor to run the pump though to generate thousands of PSI.

That’s why firearms are so handy, lots of energy in a small package.

Big shot strung together with steel wire would be very effective, I think.

everyone i ever hunted with is of the opinion that steel shot is totally inferior to lead shot. the feds outlawed lead for migratory waterfowl some years back. steel shot is hard on gun barrels as well. best legal shot for waterfowl is bismuth although more expensive.

Is a firearm necessary?

How about an arrow trailing several weed whacker cords, fired from a powerful compound bow with its aiming device & release trigger? Object: entanglement.

Makes no noise, breaks no laws. Upon launch, anyway.
