Idaho replaces mile marker 420 with 419.9 to thwart stoners

BOISE, Idaho – If you're looking for milepost 420, you won't find it in Idaho.

Idaho transportation officials say the mile marker has been replaced with 419.9 signs to curb thieves eager to own a number associated with marijuana enthusiasts.

Turns out, Idaho isn't alone in this problem. States like Washington and Colorado have also replaced 420 signs with 419.9 after consistently having to replace them after thefts by supposed sticky-fingered stoners.

Adam Rush of the Idaho Transportation Department says officials have replaced the old sign along U.S. Highway 95 with "MILE 419.9," just south of Coeur d'Alene.

~snip~

The number "420" has long been associated with marijuana, though its origins as a shorthand for pot are murky.

Ah yes. Shovel Ready Jobs.

There is nothing like a useless shovel ready job like digging a useless hole every tenth of a mile.

Thanks Barky!

The 879 is about 3 1/2 times longer and the 407 is about 5 times longer.
But we still have higher taxes and more home foreclosures than Texas.
The only thing we do have is the lowest gas tax in the country. And we don’t even have to pump it ourselves. If we do we could get arrested.
I would name more plusses but there ain’t any.

Poor New Jersey.

Is it true you can’t find a U-Haul there? So many people trying to get the hell out - that U-Haul has to routinely ship empty U-Hauls back to Jersey so people can load ‘em up and get out.

Always wonder how these can not be regularly stolen, but they aren't. (This is the Town of Harvard, named after the college, but not particularly close. All Massachusetts towns have similar signs on major roads entering town.)

Dummies...complete ingnoramussessess...

Nobody has thought up the idea to make some cheap replica signs and...

SELL the damn things...

Supply and demand right? Simple solution. Sure a few would still be stolen, some folks want the real deal but I bet it would slow down a lot.

As for the comments about addicts, pot is not addicting. That was proven 40 years ago at least, Stop drinking the kool aid.

All we have to do is follow Lincoln Chafee’s advice and switch to metric. Problem solved—no Mile 420 to worry about. Nobody’s going to steal a Kilometer 676 sign.

What’s the difference between a drunk driver and a stoned driver?

The drunk driver will blow right past a stop sign.
The stoned driver will wait for it to turn green.

Bong Recreation Area is the site of the started but never completed Bong Air Force Base, abandoned in 1959.

Named for Maj. Richard I. Bong, highest scoring U.S. ace in WWII. Killed in 1945 while test piloting a Lockheed P-80 jet.

Folks who do not differentiate between “user” and “addict” are ignorant.

And every addict I've ever known (and I've known many) insist they're merely "users." You're an addict. The only one who doesn't know it is you.

It’s a “code word” that’s been around for years. It originated when kids would meet at 4:20 to get high.

We are also #1 in the amount of people migrating to other states. We are exporting proggs to other states so beware of transplanted Jerseyites they bring their politics with them. They are migrating to where we live and our conservative area is changing. As you know they soil every place they go.
