Apple's Project Titan Is Getting Closer To Reality [Their self-driving car]

A newly published report in the Guardian suggests that not only is Apple planning a self-driving car, but that the so-called Project Titan prototype is ready for testing.

Documents revealed by British newspaper The Guardian strongly indicate the long-rumored self-driving car program by Apple, codenamed Project Titan, is indeed a reality.

The correspondence reveals Apple's interest in GoMentum Station, a 5,000-acre, former navy weapons station in California that features 20 miles of paved roadway, which other companies have used for the testing, validation, and commercialization of connected vehicle (CV) applications and autonomous vehicles (AV) technologies.

"We would ... like to get an understanding of timing and availability for the space, and how we would need to coordinate around other parties who would be using [it]," Frank Fearon, an Apple engineer, wrote in the document obtained by the paper. "We are hoping to see a presentation on the ... testing grounds with a layout, photos, and a description of how the various areas of the grounds could be used."

Jack Hall, program manager for autonomous vehicles at GoMentum Station, wrote to Fearson in May saying a tour of the facility would have to be postponed but that the company was "working to keep everything moving and to meet your testing schedule," which the Guardian understood to mean Apple has a prototype ready for the road.

Then again there is a rumor that it is not a car, but a headsup windshield display of some sort.

I’m a long-time Apple guy and a car guy as well, but self-driving cars leave me cold.

Id be happy with a car that could either go find a free place to park or loop the block so I could do things occasionally in ‘Rat Centers where parking is at a premimum.

Self-driving cars will enable millions of middle class families to have a virtual chauffeur enabling them to live farther out in the exburbs. More than anything politics is driven by population density. They will become more self-reliant and conservative, and vote accordingly. Self-driving cars will destroy money-pit train transportation, bus lines, and immigrant driven taxis. The cities will empty out and many will go bankrupt. This technology is a game changer against America's communist cancer.

The hell with all these self-driving cars; I'm still waiting for the flying car I was promised 50 years ago.

The government will program self-driving cars to take you only where they allow them to take you.

This technology is a game changer for spreading America’s communist cancer.

I want to see how a “self-driving “ car does at the approach to the GW bridge about 6pm on a Friday.
(They are not self-driving. It’s a more sophisticated cruise control)

What a complete waste of money for Apple.
Do the board members and the big owners of stock just roll over? No one one would risk their life and their families lives in a car they cannot control.

The government will program self-driving cars to take you only where they allow them to take you.

The government will program our web browsers to block pro-America web sites long before that happens.

Is the Apple Car coming to a reality? A British Newspaper seems to think so. . . and claims that Apple's Project Titan is ready for test driving. There are rumors that Apple is negotiating with the US Navy for access to a surplus navy base in the San Francisco area to test drive something. . . and I doubt they would need empty roads to test drive a phone, streaming videos, or a computer. — PING!

Thanks to SeekandFind for the posting. . . and conservatism_IS_compassion for the ping. . .

Project Titan Apple Car?

My son and I went to the Tour d'Elegance in Carmel, CA last Thursday and we were prognosticating what automobiles will be like 50 to 100 years from now. At the Tour, were were enjoying cars from 50 to 100 years in the past. I suggested that 50 to 100 years from now you won't be allowed to drive an automobile. They will all be self-driving and show up at your house on command (he'll be 74 in 50 years). No more accidents. Sedate acceleration and cornering. No injuries. Low insurance rates. No jerks flipping you off. The only time you will be able to drive your old sports cars will be at special events like the Tour (if anybody remembers how to actually drive a car). He didn't care for that glimpse of the future at all.

Statists despise the freedom allowed by personal vehicles.
So it makes sense that we would be pushed toward a system as you describe.

Ever hear the one about the drunk who wrecked his car into a tree, and fell half-way out the open driver's side door?

A police officer comes along, asks; "have a little accident?"

The drunk answers, "no thank you occifer, just [hic] had one".

Got it covered. Don't need a computer to do it for me. Sometimes I worry I'll get pulled over because they may think I'm drunk. Drive too slow, whenever I can get away with it...

No problem. Don't have any (recently, for a long while).

Already had one too, officer. Motorcycle riders=only two kinds=those who have gone down, and those that are going to. If I decide to donate more skin to the pavement, what's it to you? Would it hurt your feelings?

HA! Dream on. Like that's ever going to happen. You can keep your doctor, too.

Change the way you do things, quit driving like a [.......] and you won't (get flipped the bird).

Lucky for the [blanks] I don't have one of those James Bomb cars I've long had a hankering for.

Maybe Microsoft will produce one to compete with that other computer making selling outfit.

That would be nice.
