An Oregon house cat has been named the world's oldest at the ripe old age of 26. Corduroy, a long-haired tabby, has belonged to Ashley Reed Okura of Sisters, Oregon since he was just short of 7-years-old. "The secret has been allowing him to be a cat -- hunting and getting plenty of love!" Okura said in a release put out by Guinness World Records, who certified the record Thursday.

Corduroy is the perfect name for a hippie cat from Oregon. Other than “Smelly Armpit Hair.”

Our cat is only 10 but he’s also an outdoor cat and our vet likes that. He says that outdoor cats are usually strong and healthy. Bob stays in the yard and we live on a quiet street.

My cat lived until 21. She was also outdoor until the last few years of her life when she retired and stayed in full time.

Our Tigger is over 15. Indoor, probably a mixture of Siamese and Himilayan. Still active and apparently doing well. Great cat.

Corduroy credits his longevity to having a bourbon and coke every day.

I thought cat years were seven per year.
But this says 26 years is 120.
That’s 4.6 cat years per human year.
To: ifinnegan
Dogs are 7 years to a human year.
Cats I believe are 5 years to a human year

Thanks.
It is of course, a bit of hand waving, but a fun rule of thumb.

I thought cat years were seven per year.
It is NOT linear. Certainly a one year old cat is more like a 17 year old than a seven year old. It is just a rule of thumb with the numbers getting smaller as the years pile on.

I’ve got one right now that is 21. She’s sleeping next to me as I speak (at least I hope she’s sleeping).
