This woman got a party hat, a marching band, flowers, champagne and a whole lot of embarrassment for being named a Dutch store's 10,000th shoplifter.
It turns out, not everybody loves a parade.

that was great!
I actually hope it’s real for once and until someone comes out with otherwise, I’m hoping the Dutch have a good sense of how to humiliate a thief.
Levity is good...
It’s become an essential element of life during these dark times.
Should have taken that cake and smashed it in face.
I wonder if the shoplifter is an Afro-Dutch...
**We have lost the virtue of shame in our society.**
After teaching in the inner city for 33 yrs. I came to that conclusion, also.
It took me a long time of observation and experience to learn that no matter what the discipline problem, the children have no shame or remorse. I believe these are taught virtues; no one is teaching them a virtuous life at home; it used to be that attendance in church reinforced those values.
Public Humiliation Therapy.
I’m suspicious too.
I took a job one summer, for a large chain grocery store; as part of the orientation, the store manager took me through the operation, which included a short explanation of their store security camera room. He said, no one was assigned to watch the monitors; a corporate security guy came through once a month, to make sure all the equipment was working okay; VHS tape at the time. He mentioned that they only used the tape if an employee or customer reported a theft; used it as proof to police.
I know this isn’t the Netherlands, but in our state you need to leave the premises with the pilfered item, B4 it is considered shoplifted. So that girl would have had to pass the front portal of the store to be considered a shoplifter.
HAHAHA! I LOVE IT!
PERFECT!
Two types of shoplifting in most jurisdictions: removal and concealment.

My daughter taught in an inner city class for 3 years. One of those years she was pregnant with her second child, she had one class that had a dozen 15 year old girls in it, 5 of them were pregnant, two of them on their second child also, they were giving my daughter tips on child. birth.
She and her husband both finally got better positions with a suburban school, she says there’s a whole world of difference.
I’ve had classes with boys w/ankle bracelets who were dismissed from school at 1:00 to meet w/ their parole officers.
A pregnant 4th grader [9y/o]. I believe the state arranged an abortion for her. I’m against abortion....but this was a case, where it was the best thing. The baby would be in a household of habitual drug offenders.
You have to be tough-as-nails to even make your way to work in the ‘hood. Never mind the stuff you see as a matter of course, that would shock any civilized suburbanite.
I’m so glad your daughter & SIL found a happier place to be. I understand, one’s peace-of-mind can’t have a price tag on it.
