In my weird imaginary world, they would decommission a blimp by pulling out the stopper at the rear end, causing it to rocket uncontrollably all over the place with the gas rushing out until finally it collapsed in a heap on the ground...

I used to live on the Tustin Air Base when my dad was in the Marines back in the early ‘70s. We called the base LTA (lighter than air). The Goodyear Blimp made regular appearances at the hangars for maintenance. I got to get up close to it a few times in the hangar....it’s a massive ship.

Almost got to ride it a few times, but it was always too windy on ride day....now I’ll never get a chance.....

GEORGE: So I saw that new movie about the Hindenburg.

ELAINE: Oh, yeah. What’s that called?

GEORGE: Blimp: The Hindenburg Story.

JERRY: How was it?

GEORGE: I found it morose. Why dwell on these negative themes?

JERRY: Yeah. They should make a movie about all the Hindenburg flights that made it.

GEORGE: Anyway, right in the middle, the ship blows up— burning debris, bodies falling— and then just as this eerie silence settles over the airfield, I yelled out, “That’s gotta hurt!”

Hindenburg isn’t a blimp.

Are you sure?
Next you’ll tell me a whale isn’t a fish!

Yeah, it is.
Guess it’s a good thing my old Rowly dog died a few years ago, he used to just love barking at the Goodyear Blimp until it went out of site.
Then he would come over to me and tell me in dog language “see how tough and bad I am, I chased it away”.
I would tell him what a good, brave boy he was, chased that great big flying monster away, GOOD BOY.

There’s something poetic about the Spirit of America being torn apart for trinkets and recycling.

“Then they’ll open a 25-foot-long seam on top of the envelope to release nearly 200,000 cubic feet of helium.”

If only they could wait till next month and do it just before the next Republican debate.

It isn’t very far apart.

I’ve flown in a Zeppelin NT and it is an amazing airship.

Irritating they are going to waste that natural resource!

Floats to the top of the atmosphere and is eventually lost in space. Seeing that Helium is a byproduct of radioactive decay, once it's gone, it's gone.

We'd have to mine the moon for He-3.
