Obama Administration Urges States to Cut Health Insurers’ Requests for Big Rate Increases

WASHINGTON — Hoping to avoid another political uproar over the Affordable Care Act, the Obama administration is trying to persuade states to cut back big rate increases requested by many health insurance companies for 2016.

In calling for aggressive regulation of rates, federal officials are setting up a potential clash with insurers. Some carriers said they paid out more in claims than they collected in premiums last year, so they lost money on policies sold in the new public marketplaces. After finding that new customers were sicker than expected, some health plans have sought increases of 10 percent to 40 percent or more.

Administration officials have political and financial reasons for wanting to hold down premiums. Big rate increases could undermine public support for the health care law, provide ammunition to Republican critics of the measure and increase costs for some consumers and the federal government.

I'm surprised the NYT reported this negative information about the Won.

I'm sure, though, that the media will spin this to make the "Greedy" insurance companies the culprit.

Grubered again!

Hey, Insurance Companies:

Congratulations! You are now Charlie Brown, and Obama has the football. Lie down with dogs and you get fleas. Enjoy your last couple of years in business, ya buncha putzes!

The companies will stop operations in those states in short order.

Onward to single-payer.

Again, so the government can just dictate what certain groups can and cannot charge, right?

This is flat out socialism. Central planning. Certain private employers must charge only this, or that. Say, isn’t this being done in Venezuela?

Which means the insurance companies will have to either find a way to cut back (which dear leader’s wet dream won’t let them do anymore) or they go out of business and we hear more calls for the government to take over.

But hey, what does the government really care if you get health insurance or not? They already got their right to fine you for inaction out of the deal, and that’s what the whole game was all about from the start.

That is the plan....keep pushing them out of the states until only the central government remains as the insurer.

When socialism fails, it is always the price control trick, now working so well in Venezuela. “The evil capitalist price gougers!”

We appreciate your support and we had a deal, you stay in business, now, this is how we want you to do it, or else. Classic mob infiltration technique.

What's the worst "gotcha"? "Undermine public support" (yeah, right...what support?), followed by "provide ammunition" (evil, EEEVIL) "to Republican (evil again) critics".

Increased costs for "some" consumers comes in a weak third.

Why even mention expense to the feds? Is that even a problem? They just print the money to pay the bills they don't feel like denying.

This is what happens when you put some small time grifter from chicago, somebody who has no understanding of economics or politics, into the white hut. This pimp doesn't understand that medicine is not a benevolent enterprise. Doctors invest years of their lives and hundreds of thousands of dollars ........ for future profit.

But this affirmative action, entitlement fool insists they work for free. Liberals are too stupid to live.

They will show up for bailouts from us the taxpayer and after they squander those and obumbler further restricts their rate increases they will find out what single payer really means to committed communists.
