A 9-year-old batboy remains in critical condition after being hit with a bat during a Saturday baseball game, according to officials at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.
...
McCaffrey, who was at the game, said one of his teams batters accidentally hit Carlile during a warmup swing as the boy was retrieving a bat that had just been used. He said he heard the bat collide with Carlile, who was wearing a helmet. Carlile took three or four steps before he fell as the team rushed to him.

Ouch! The poor kid. Prayers.
But one must wonder at the team name "Liberal Bee Jays"... Seriously...
(Liberal is a city in KS, but did someone cross an insect with a bird?)
Got hit across the mouth when I was 8 years old. Was playing catcher in our neighborhood court, when a young batter swung, hit the ball and released the bat over her shoulder, hitting me right across the mouth. Lost half of my front left tooth, and had 5 stitches sewn in my upper lip. Have never forgotten it. That was 1964. That tooth was capped, recapped, capped again, then crowned, recrowned, and crowned a third time. Could have been worse. Hope the young player gets on with little to no long-term damage/scarring.
I got hit in the head by a bat, with no helmet, about sixty years ago, and I can still feel it. No fun. Reminds me of Dusty Baker’s son running out to home plate while the play was still occurring at home in the ‘02 World Serious against the Angels—iirc, JT Snow grabbed him and pulled him out of harm’s way.
I spent five years in Western Kansas. I think the Bee Jays probably comes from the Ban Johnson League tho I am not certain.
Of course the name Liberal has nothing to do with politics, it was because they were free with their water during the early days of the town.
It was named after Bill Clinton’s team of interns...
I met a guy in Georgia who signed a pro baseball contract right out of high school.
They sent him to Liberal which has to be the very lowest rung on the baseball ladder.
When I coached I was always terribly worried about just that thing.
Kids are always half paying attention and walking too close to guys practice swinging. Drove ya crazy.
Wow, poor kid. Feel terribly for him, his family, and also the team (especially the player involved - obviously an accident and nothing he could do, but can’t imagine the guilt he must be feeling).
The exact same thing happened to me,only I
was a bit older.
Was in the Army getting ready to be sent to
VN when a dental check at Bragg found I
had massive infection from a lousy hometown dentist.
Oh, dear. Prayers up for this child.
Prayers up for the bat boy.
Just heartbreaking.
Prayers up, for the Lord’s complete healing, over this young boy and guidance over his medical team.
I’ll say it: 9 is too young to be out there in that environment.
Happened to me when I was 8 or 9 too. Cuncussion and stithe. Nice scar I have too. Some people that know me says it explains a lot.... LOL!
Baker and the Giants were complete fools to have permitted it.
Prayers for the little guy.
