In a 1½ hour span Wednesday night, Carrick lost a community tradition some six decades old.
The St. Basil Catholic Parish summer festival the parishs biggest annual fundraiser will cease to exist after brawling teenagers prompting its early closure out of fear for public safety, according to the parishs pastor, the Rev. Stephen Kresak.

Father Kresak said the festival has been plagued by brawls before. He said a small group of teens who came from outside the Carrick community cause problems, and he believes the festival gave teenagers a place to congregate without being noticed as out of the ordinary.

The annual festival was supposed to run from Wednesday through Saturday night but only lasted about two hours on its opening evening as six brawls between teenagers were reported between 9:30 and 11 p.m., Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said. Two police officers were serving as security that night, but the teenagers only dispersed when more officers arrived.

Let me guess ...
Dindo nuffins
I take it those “teens” weren’t Catholics.
LOL ... beat me to it
Rumspringa.
The story doesn’t give any details about the teens. Appearance, any statements they may have made, reasons for their brawling.
Funny that.
Rumspringa.
GMTA LOL!
So the kids won.
The authority — or lack of it -— has given the kids a power they will use again and again.
You can take the Amish out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the Amish.
I take it the National Action Network is not going to write out a check to St, Basil’s for the loss of their income from this annual fundraiser.
“I’m surprise dint no one put they brawl video awl up on Youtoob..n whatever..”
Or as we have heard all of our lives...give them an inch and they will take a mile. When will they ever learn.
This story has been on the local news for the last 2 days. Apparently hundreds of Obama’s sons blacked streets and sidewalks and the cops gave them leave and just hung around. Some folks were standing in line with kids waiting for to get on a ride and had to run. you can believe the local news is falling all over themselves not to report the truth of the situation. Sickening.
Most parishes anywhere near welfare hives closed decades ago...
The authority or lack of it - has given the kids a power they will use again and again.
That's exactly right. Better that the church should restrict admittance to the festival to church members, and their families. Give those folks tickets in advance. Then provide enough security to enforce that.
But it is so much easier to just surrender.
Perhaps they are students visiting from the Gibs Me Dat School of Economics, on a visit to the sister school Wharton.
I know you are familiar with such things near Newark.
