An article about giving government-subsidized tampons to women that was published in The Daily Bruin, the student newspaper at the University of California, Los Angeles, came complete with a clarification that the author did not mean to suggest that menstruation was always a women thing so as not to offend any transgender, non-menstruating women readers.
The disclaimer, a picture of which was posted on Twitchy, states: This blog post refers to individuals who menstruate as women because the author wanted to highlight gender inequality in health care. We acknowledge that not all individuals who menstruate identify as women and that not all individuals who identify as women menstruate, but feel this generalization is appropriate considering the gendered nature of most health care policies.
After all, they wouldnt want anyone thinking they were transphobic. I know that if I personally had read such an article without this kind of clarification, my first thought would definitely have been: How dare they say women instead of cisgender women and male-identified female-bodied persons? Youre so ignorant that youre all dead to me. So, good save!
In all honesty, feeling the need to post a clarification like this for daring to talk about periods as a women thing seems crazy but its not the first time this kind of issue has come up. In fact, theres also an ongoing fight about whether its okay to refer to abortion as a womens issue, for the same reasons.
Good luck out there, everyone.
How, exactly do trans men to women menstuate? Or do I want to know?
When I was a teenager things were so much simpler...
Silly Nana that was 50 years ago...
“I am glad, however, my wife bought them at the store so I didnt have to!”
Just for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuSoLe3AWAE
So he got on the store-wide intercom and said, his voice reverberating through the store:
The ones you can push in with your thumb or the kind you gotta use a hammer on?”
ROTF!
As a non woman straight male I demand equality. I want my fair share of free Sanitary pads. I actually have some in my room as I type.
I love them, they are great. When I finish cleaning my weapons I spray them with gun oil and wipe down the weapon. They leave no particles nor lent.
I am not making a joke. They are really good for cleaning.
