Over 28 years as head of the Anti-Defamation League, Abe Foxman emerged as a forceful torchbearer for American Jews. He counseled presidents and diplomats, CEOs and celebrities. He took on prominent figures over anti-Semitic remarks or representationsactor Mel Gibson among themand accepted any ensuing apologies on behalf of an entire community. No other U.S. Jewish leader has wielded as much influence with policymakers, faith leaders and U.S. Jews.
On Monday, Foxman retires as national director, a major moment of transition in American Jewish life that raises questions about the future of the organization known as the ADL. [ ]
The ADL was founded in 1913 with a mandate to fight anti-Semitism and all bias. But the emphasis differed over time depending on who was in charge and the issues of the day.
Foxman has faced criticism that the ADL puts too many resources into non-Jewish issues. Under him, the organization built a formidable research arm into white supremacists and other extremists, advocated for immigrant and gay rights, conducted diversity training for law enforcement and developed programs for schools on issues ranging from the Holocaust to the 1964 Civil Rights Act to the impact of bullying.
And though Foxman opposed a planned mosque near ground zero in New York, his organization formed an interfaith coalition to defend mosque construction elsewhere in the U.S.

At one time Foxman was a good leader and fighter of anti-Semitism, but over time, he lost sight of who the real enemy was and blindly turned on patriotic Americans.
If he had left 15 years ago, he would have had a great legacy attached to his name. As it is now, it is only fair-to-good.
Re Jesse Jackson. The SOB had a KGB operative on his staff from the late 60’s and never got rid of him. In fact, Jack O’Dell was one of Jackson’s key foreign affairs advisors and contact with the old Assad regime in Syria, among other Moslem/leftist organizations.
O’Dell was the one who kept Jackson on the Marxist-left of politics and involved in pro-PLO affairs/fronts (Palestine Human Rights Campaign, and the united Marxist-Arabist “Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee”).
Sometimes Foxman got “out-foxed” by the left.
I see.
I can understand leftist politics in supposedly do-good outfits
as long as they do what they claim they do!!
but with ADL, and I applaud what good work they DO do, they do NOT deliver or, imho, even seem to do anything at all.....to help innocent people who are under assault from anti-Semitic government personnel
maybe you know someone who did get some help from ADL, there MUST be some people who have......hopefully, hopefully, anyway
but just between you and me... do NOT count on ADL if you ever need any assistance defending yourself against discrimination of any kind...............they may review your case and agree you’ve unfortunately got a very good one.....they may assign you an “expert attorney” and they may SAY they will help you..... but then.....forget it.
They just might do NOTHING... just keep you waiting to hear from them... and then not answer your queries... all the while promising... well, you get the idea.
As far as I go, there are many other organizations one can donate to. ADL sounds good, given they’ve pretty well occupied the ‘anti-discrimination’ turf in the public mind........................but sounding good and actually helping people in trouble.............are two very different things.
IMHO, your mileage may vary.
his organization formed an interfaith coalition to defend mosque construction elsewhere in the U.S.
A US controlled atoll somewhere in the pacific would be the only locale acceptable to ME
Frank was killed by progressive klansmen. Appreciate the irony of that reality and the fact that the ADL is progressive and not Jewish
Pretty sure “The Who” had a song about this.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.....
I for one, won’t be fooled again.
Do you have a source for that?
I believe you but I'd like to post a source when people say "Leo Frank got what he deserved."
Thanks in advance.
He didn’t speak for me or my family either.
