what he said...
Well “myPhone support” wanted $109 for one time fix, or $199 for a year of support. I called the 8XX number another poster offered up.
I told them no - that I have been an Office customer for 20 years, and have always paid for upgrades and it was their problem.
We parted ways.
They wanted $109
Interesting.
Belarc lists my 8.1 64 bit OS key, but not an Office Key.
hmmm.
cool software BTW, thx.
Go with Open Office. My friend earned a 2-year degree in lower level IT, but he’s been working with computers for about 20 years. He knows all the ins and outs of parts, software and operating systems. If a mid-tier firm gives him a chance, he could probably make $60k a year to start.
Another vote for LibreOffice.
It reads and writes Office docs pretty well. It also has the advantage of being included with Linux Mint, which is the closest Linux OS to Windows that I’ve found. If you ever decide to “dump the big ‘M’” like you said, that’s probably going to be the Office-style program that loads up on the alternative OS.
I’ve heard some rumbling about Google Docs ( https://www.google.com/docs/about/ ), but I’ve never really kicked the tires on it, and I think it’s cloud-based anyway.
Did you explain this is a product you bought and paid for and has sudden stopped working? Not surprised though, they are worthless and becoming more so every day.
Yep. Naveen was unsympathetic.
Tell the person answering that you want to speak with the manager. If you get no satisfaction from them go higher and keep going higher until you get some satisfaction.
Absolutely!
Years ago, I had a problem with a shorted shipment of software. I spent nearly a month with customer service runarounds. I finally got a supervisor who could not resolve the issue. I told her I wanted to speak to ‘her’ supervisor. She said ‘there wasn’t one’ and hung up.
About 30 minutes later, ‘she’ got a call from the VP in charge of that part of the company.
The VP’s secretary called me and informed me that the situation had been resolved and I would be getting the shorted software ASAP.
[That CS agent found out she DID have a supervisor. I wondered how long she kept her job after that.]

That was not the only time I went above a CS agent. After giving them more than ample time to resolve situations, I had not problem calling the corporate offices.
See if you qualify.
Office Professional 2013 Buy the DVD for about $30 w/tax instead of the download which you cannot save.
This version is the full version.

There is no additional charge as the store bought one rents for $99 a year.
“Linux Mint, which is the closest Linux OS to Windows that Ive found”
I have alternated between Ubuntu and Mint. Now that Ubuntu offers a Mate desktop (thanks, Mint!) I am currently using that. Anyone comfortable with Windows XP ought to really like either of those. I detest the design of Vista and everything else that followed.
Ok! This site worked after a little digging. I was able to locate my order from two years ago, make a call and get the keys emailed to me.
Thanks for your help, all!
Go to office.live.com and try to log in. Say you have forgotten your password, etc and see if you can trigger a memory.
I’m good now, but thanks.
Took some digging - found the original order number and tracked down keys with MS help
“”I have been a marginally happy PAYING Office customer for YEARS””
What does that mean? Paying for what?
Each time there was an upgrade with a fee, I paid.
My first copy of Windows was Windows 1.0
My first copy of MS Word was on a STACK of floppies.
I have “paid it forward” with MS for years, and am only marginally happy with their products.
OH good!
