Firefox is a browser like Internet Explorer, not an OS.
He asked about a browser, IE11. I said to use Firefox. IE has too many holes.
I’ve heard that Edge will not do ActiveX at all. Silverlight does not yet have a plugin and some people read that as it will not be supported. I believe Silverlight is near end of life so maybe it will be dropped as well. HTML5 is the way to go for any website or application at this time. Any HTML5 compliant apps should work on Chrome or Edge.
I work in a large corporate environment and we have moved tens of thousands of PC’s to IE 11 on Windows 7. We allow Chrome, but certify applications on IE 11. We dropped Firefox last year (thank god). I have always had memory management issues with Firefox and am not a big fan.
What is your corporate plan for Windows 10?
I think it is free for a year. This is Microsoft’s plan to move people from 7 and 8.
I wish they would offer the free deal for XP. I have a couple of boxes I would like to upgrade if it is as good as the reviews are saying.
“Why do you want to?”
From time to time I have had some issues with IE 10. And I do not want to go Chrome. Only thing Google I ever use s ‘Earth’.
your not going to have a choice. That said edge beats the crap out of the rest of the pack and is the default browser for W10, with IE11 as the compatibility mode back up. Since you’ll be basically forced to upgrade to w10 by October, make sure your backed up fully by july 29. W10 is much more self healing then 7 or 8. If your backed up, go get w10 and update you’ll lose your antivirus, though I think Norton is now w10 compliant. Its ok because MS defender is a default AV and its got both a black and white list.
Thanks, I’ll keep it in mind.
“If you can wait until the end of the month, you can get the free upgrade to Windows 10 with the new Microsoft Edge browser.”
I am certainly not in any hurry, but am asking the question now so I can no if I should go ‘11’. What is the advantage for waiting for W10 and Edge? Will this be a good thing? After all, the end of the month is only 2 weeks away! :)
“Most of us are not mindless geeks without a life, which one has to be to profit by and celebrate the benefits of the Linux alternatives.”
Nonsense. I really hope you’re joking. I’ve been using Linux almost exclusively on multiple machines for over five years now. It has been overall much less hassle than Windows.
I’ve been running 10 for 6 months, its a definite go to. regardless of how you use the system, tablet or key/mouse, 10 works better. Its the best of both platforms. Its very close to finished, there were a number of updates in the last 2 weeks. I doubt there will be more then 1 more before its official
“I know the Mennonites do that also.”
I have both Amish and Mennonite friends who have cell phones and computers. State of the art! I was with one of my Amish friends yesterday. He was showing me his new printers, one color inkjet, one laser black and white. He wants a laser color printer.
Thanks for that, I just requested to join the windows pinglist.
I just installed Kaspersky internet security a month and a half ago, will I lose that if I go to windows 10?
Thank you. So doing that, should I keep IE 10 or download IE 11 and do that? And should I activate all of the tools?
Yeah, even with those niggling little "it corrupted my OS & cost me $100" speedbumps...
Thanks. I use Norton 360 and like it. It keeps my pc’s “clean”.
Thanks, I am on dayglored’s ping list. Will follow your advice, and his!
I moved to PaleMoon (FF clone) after FF persecuted the founder for donating to a traditional marriage protection amendment in CA.
oh dude dump the commie AV. Its likely compromised. Are you unaware of the security breach the usa and Israel caused at Kaspersky. If not look up Duqu 2.0 GGgrandson of stuxnet. (sp)
That said yes until its certified by MS which should take less the 1 month.
> Thanks, I am on daygloreds ping list. Will follow your advice, and his!
Well, thank you both for your kind words and expressions of trust. I'll do my very best to only give good advice, and to keep my trap shut when I'm not sure! :-)
Personally I've found IE 11 to be the best of a bad bunch -- it's usable, more so than any of its predecessors, but given a choice, I'll use anything else first.
I admit -- since about 1996 IE has only been "that program I use on a fresh system once -- to download a real browser".
