I have a laptop with Windows 7 Pro installed and a couple years ago on one of the MS monthly downloads IE 11 was installed. It corrupted my laptop and I had to take it in to where I bought it - got it fixed for $100. I just downloaded the July updates and again did not download IE 11. Is it now safe to download and use?
When I had my problem they told me they had seen a number of similar problems with IE 11, and this was not uncommon with IE when the upgrades first come out.
Thoughts, please.
RE: FF
I tried Palemoon but between ver 24 and 25 it broke several extensions.
I now use another Mozilla based browser that seems stable and most of the extensions I like work with its 32-bit version:

isnt FR boycotting the amish?
If you can wait until the end of the month, you can get the free upgrade to Windows 10 with the new Microsoft Edge browser.
Banned list??? You’ve gotta be kidding.
LOL I’m not sure.
There’s no official list.
For a long while as a joke I kept a list on retail stores.
Eventually we got down to the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shops as the only acceptable one.
Then someone posted an anti-Catholic screed and we were out of business..
As long as you’re logged in.
Give me a name and I’ll give you a reason why some FReeper said it must be boycotted, LOL.
Back in the days when Best Buy was new, I was roaming the aisles and came across an Amish fellow carrying a scanner. Many of the Amish here in east central Illinois run small furniture manufacturing or construction related facilities and use computers in their businesses.
Interesting.
I know the Mennonites do that also.
IE 11 is the most stable and secure version out there. I use it on both Windows 7 and 8.1 without any problems. I think it is much faster than IE 8 and 9. It is much more secure than all previous versions. However, it does not work exactly the same on Windows 7 and Windows 8.
As for all of the naysayers, I use Chrome as well, and don’t find it to work any better on Windows 7 than IE 11. Keep in mind I do not run it with any funky plugins or toolbars. Also the new MS Browser (Edge) will be out in July with windows 10, I’m not sure if it will be backward compatible with Windows 7 or 8.
Is your post a recommendation in favor of Windows 10? I’m on windows 7 professional. I was thinking that I should wait for proof of Windows 10’s quality.
I do keep two anti-virus programs in use current at all times, and run a scan of the critical parts of my system regularly : Norton Security Suite, provided by my IP, Comcast/Xfinity, and Spyhunter.
Spyhunter has the added advantage that should a virus penetrate the system, they will send me a removal tool for my specific problem.
No need for professional help during the last two years. I have two Win 7Pro PCs and One Win 7 Home Premium PC.
I hate the juveniles on FR of all ages.
The question was about Win 7. If you can't help, please at least don't change the subject, or hijack the thread.
Most of us are not mindless geeks without a life, which one has to be to profit by and celebrate the benefits of the Linux alternatives.
Hint for IE
go to the upper right corner and click on the thing that looks like a cog gear.
click on ‘Safety’
Make use of the tools that are generally off by default.
IE runs fine on my Windows 7 Toshiba I bought in Oct 2009.
It may not be the products themselves, but the mindless geeks who insist on hijacking threads and changing the subject.
Comprehension problems.
I am going to it as soon as it is released. However, I am on 8.1 so I am betting that it is better. :-)
I use 7 at work and it is good, so maybe stay with it and use Chrome... IE11 isn’t bad. I run a copy for testing my web development, but I use Chrome as my main browser. The web developer tools are better.
I am looking forward to Edge. Everything I read about it has been very positive.
If you want, freepmail me about a week into next month and I will tell you how it is going.
I think they are ditching silverlight/activex. That means there are sites that will have broken features. I see it with Chrome on a lot of intranet sites.
There probably is some money to be made fixing those clunky sites. :-)
I should have specified IE 11 runs fine on my Windows 7.
I will upgrade to Win 10 when dayglored says it’s safe. Get on his ping list, it’s very helpful.
