Vlogger shoots iPhones to determine bullet-stopping capabilities

PORTLAND, Ore.,- A vlogger (Video Blogger) specializing in Apple products shared a video to answer the question, "How many iPhones does it take to stop an AK-74 bullet?"

Daniel, the owner of YouTube channel EverythingApplePro, lined up a group of iPhones -- and one Samsung Galaxy -- to test whether the phones could deflect a bullet from his assault rifle.

"The answer to that question is five iPhones," Daniel said in the YouTube video, after shooting through the line of phones and verifying the sixth phone in the lineup was untouched.

The bullet was lodged in the fifth phone, a cheap iPhone 6 clone.

A second bullet fired into the lineup landed on the sixth phone after punching through the already-damaged phones.

The sixth phone, an iPhone 5S, was damaged, but it survived the shot and remained functioning.

"Overall, I'd say it takes six iPhones to save your life in case someone shoots at you," Daniel said.

The Samsung Galaxy survived the shots from the AK-74, so Daniel remedied the situation with a blast from a shotgun.

The badly damaged phones were then finished off with an AK-47.

No again, city. The AK and its variants have reliability over more rounds and ease of use and of field stripping.

I like the larger caliber myself, but I would still go
for the AK-74 over the AR-15 if those were the only
choices.

I can field strip and clean an AK VERY easily. There
just aren’t that many parts to clean. The AK parts
are also very “chunky,” meaning there are fewer little
springs and such to break down.

And partly because there aren’t very many parts to clean
I can also NOT clean for a VERY long time and it will
still pump out the rounds. It’s not that I do that, but in
a total civil breakdown in society (SHTF) scenario, we
may have no choice. (There’s also the looser fitting parts,
which results in loss of accuracy, but accuracy means
nothing if your weapon stops firing; so it depends on
what you envision doing with the weapon.)

The AR, in contrast, needs to be “wet.” AR manufacturers
sometimes even build in a variable gas force mechanism
in their gas operation to enable the shooter to continue
firing after the point at which the bolt would normally
stop reciprocating, but as you can imagine that only
increases the fouling that needs to be cleaned later.

I treat my Russian AK-47 well, but I don’t have to. The
beast just keeps pumping out the rounds.

Get an AK today, city.

Nope, I'm a .308 man myself. My favorite is the M1a but I also like my AR-10, especially at ranges beyond 800 yards. I can field strip and clean either in 5 minutes. Since I clean the AR after every time I use it, it always has a wet bolt. Both are very reliable, round after round and have better distance, stopping power and accuracy than the AK. Not that I would refuse to get an AK, heaven forbid - I love plinking with anything that goes bang and variety is the spice of life.

Ok. Sounds like you’re a gun person after all.
Good. I was responding to your AK v. AR thing.
So you accept my “AK has (some) advantages even at
22-caliber” argument?

Now for your expertise: why would someone get an
AR-10 when there are so many other 30-cal choices
out there. Accuracy? Semi-auto goodness?

When I go to .308/30-06 land, I wouldn’t think
of AR-10 as my first choice given all the choices.

Just off hand, I’m thinking one 22LR is the new fitty cents or a dollar

I found some 425 round bricks the other day $75.00. That comes to about 17 cents so 50 cents or a dollar does not seem far off.

They are cheap compared to the alternatives. I got my AR-10 for 800 bucks used with 8 mags and a red dot scope (which I immediately traded away and replaced with a real Vortex scope.) Granted, as an all around battle rifle I much prefer the M1A but I find I'm more accurate with the AR at distance. I consider the AR my precision rifle and M1A my general purpose battle rifle. For a medium range rifle I most like my Marlin .357 lever action over a AR-15. It's amazingly accurate out to 150 yards with iron sights, uses the same ammo as my revolvers and is about as reliable as you can get.
