Any time there's an oil spill on the water, the media are filled with photos and videos of crude-soaked birds. The coverage is the cue for the self-appointed environmentalist defenders of wildlife to wring their hands and furrow their brows.

Yeah, but windmills are pretty and oil is icky.
It’s not even close
I thought birds were so smart.
I really, really despise hypocrisy.
Right up there with fry-em-aloft solar farms.
Doesn’t matter, it’s STILL Bush’s fault, and you’re STILL a racist...
12ga.
I’m guessing that cars kill more than windmills and oil spills combined. Cats kill more than cars. The world would be a terrible place if birds weren’t killed.
(I thought birds were so smart.)
Why would you think that? Does the expression “bird brain” ring a bell?
Every year, often more than once, a goshawk swoops down and takes a mourning dove at my feeders. I respect those raptors, it’s over in a nanosecond.
Wind turbines do not “chop” up birds. It is worse.
Wind turbine impacts cause internal damage. The birds suffer in pain with internal bleeding, broken wings/legs/bones over a long period of time.
Predators put these suffering birds out of their misery as they have learned turbines are an easy source of helpless food.
Similarly, solar does not “fry” birds to death. Instead, solar cooks them just enough internally to cause organ failure. Again, the bird suffers in pain until, hopefully, a predator eats it. Otherwise, it is a long and agonizing death as organ after organ shut down.
Hi Daffy,
Attempting to save oil soaked birds is a waste of time and money, but makes a hell of a good fund raiser. Lo, the poor bird ... apologies to A. Pope.
And how many birds (bats and insects) hit by a windmill or cross a solar panel hot spot survive? Any pics of a survivor handy?
