PRESQUE ISLE, Maine —It is not uncommon for firefighters to get called to rescue a cat stuck in a tree, but crews in northern Maine recently had to rescue a cat's owner.

A woman climbed 75 feet up a tree in Presque Isle to try and save her cat, but then she panicked and called 911.

The fire department came with a ladder truck and brought her to safety.

I've seen squirrels in the vicinity of the local KFC gnawing on leftover drum sticks and wings. Cat, it taste like chicken.

Squirrel nests, who knows how many cat remains are hidden there.

In my 60+ years on this best of all possible worlds, I’ve never seen a cat skeleton in a tree... Hint, Hint.

I've never known a cat that, regardless of the difficulty of the course, couldn't make its way to its food bowl.

Probably lots of foundation issues with that house.

Gutters in Maine would be ripped down every winter. That was the first thing I noticed about the houses out here in NW Pennsylvania, that the houses with gutters often have 20 foot long icicles (glaciers) hanging on them... most 2 story houses don't have gutters. That house's foundation is elevated... it probably has decent drainage.

That’s wonderful news. New England isn’t such a large area and I wish they could get around to reciprocal carry among the states.

Bringing your youngsters to such events will pay-off in the long run. Incremental victories are heartening. Good for you mom!

Me too on reciprocal carry. Massachusetts is the really big problem with that plan. Can’t see that ever changing.

Thanks for the thumbs up.

* Massachusetts is the really big problem with that plan.*

It sure is.

When I travel through Massachusetts [carrying], on the way to Vermont or New Hampshire....I hold my breath. It shouldn’t be that way.

Just because a cat climbs a tree, it’s not as easy as you’d think for it to get down. The claws grow in such a way that going up is easy, but not so getting down.

I hear you. I don’t even want to talk about it. Been thinking about removing some bumper stickers just to blend in to the crowd. I have one from the machine gun shoot they used to have down around Dover-Foxcroft, Maine that I’d love to put on my car, but it’d be like a big bullseye. Mustn’t be foolish!
