How ugly?
The Phillies, the worst team in baseball, lost 19-3 to the Baltimore Orioles. It was their eighth straight road loss, which marks the first time the franchise has gone winless on a trip of at least eight games since 1883. Dennis Deitch, from the Delaware County Daily Times, put it into context:
The last time the Phillies had a road trip that consisted of at least eight games and no wins, they we traveling by train and stagecoach to polo fields, playing barehanded in the field and spending their offseasons contracting black lung. So, yes, it was ugly.

I guess scrooing Charlie Manuel by getting rid of him only a day or two before he was to be honored for his 1000th win as coach didn’t pay off so well. Karma some would say.

So where was the Phillies' messenger?
They couldn’t send the mascot or the ball girl or the bat boy to sprint down to the bullpen with a message?
They should’ve used Morse code to contact the bullpen …-—… or carrier pigeon, or smoke signals.
I think there’s more to this story. Its not unusual to have a non pitcher pitch at the end of a blowout loss, to save your pitchers strength for future games. Can’t believe the only reason for this pitching outfielder was due to a bad phone.
The Phillies could have pitch a peanut vendor and it would not have mattered.
The same thing happened to the Rays last night: they had their second-string first baseman Jake Elmore pitch the last two innings against the Nationals in a 16-4 shellacking, after beating the Nats on Monday 6-1. The difference is that the Nats and the Rays are among the best teams in their respective leagues, so from a logical standpoint neither score makes sense—but sports are decided on the field, not in the computer.
The Rays actual used TWO position players as pitchers last night. Jack Elmore for the 8th and Nick Franklin in the 9th. The Nat’s catcher Wilson Ramos hit a homer off of both. Also the Nats used their current reliever as a pinch hitter (I think DH spot for Harper?) against one of them. Bizarre stuff for sure.

Hmmm, Just for fun, I would like to see one game where each inning, every player on defense had to rotate to a new position. Nine players, Nine positions, nine innings, could be fun.
If it were a longer term rule, consider all the fun one could have with stats. “Now Mark started as an outfielder in the first two innings but has now moved to catcher in the third .....”
