OCALA, Fla. —
A Palatka, Florida, man says he snapped a picture of a raccoon on top of an alligator in the Ocala National Forest on Saturday morning.
Richard Jones said he and his family were walking along the Oaklawaha River watching alligators when his son walked through some palm fronds to get a good picture.

That photo reminds me of the old cartoon with the wolf and the sheepdog. They walk to “work” each day all buddy-buddy. Once they get to the pasture the sheepdog protects the sheep and the wolf tries to get one.
And at the end of the day with the wolf all beat up they walk home together. “See ya tomorrow Sam.”

I know this story. The gator agrees to give the coon a ride across, when they get to the other side, gator eats coon. Gator say’s, well that’s what i do
I call bs.
Raccoons are very crafty and nimble little beasts. They don’t have opposable thumbs and thus aren’t really able to go much beyond where they are - trash pickers of the universe - but they’re smart and figure out how to work with their situation.
They can be cute but seriously annoying, even leaving aside that rabies stuff. I was camping in New Hampshire once and awoke to find a raccoon methodically digging through my knapsack - I was using it as a pillow, so it was under my head but the coon was not bothered - as if he’d been trained to search people.
I shouted at him and he gave me a mean look and wandered off with no urgency.
