Wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes died Thursday morning, the WWE confirmed on Twitter. He was 69.
The pro wrestler, whose real name was Virgil Runnels was famously known as "The American Dream." The cause of death is unknown.

One thing about Ric that a lot of people forget is that Ric made himself a brand name a long time before Dale Earnhardt did. I think it’s part of what inspired Dale to market himself the way he did. They knew each other, couldn’t help it because of proximity, but they seemed to be chummy.
I knew the Earnhardts better than Ric. I spent way more time at the speedway, than at wrestling matches. Mainly saw Ric around town. In those days Charlotte wasn’t a big city. Only about 120,000 pop. It’s now approaching 4 million, from what I understand.
It was Maryville/Alcoa and the Armory on Hall Rd. They had all kinds of things going on there.
Yeah I know where that is. I went to the Armory out on Sutherland Ave for a year. No wrestling matches though LOL.

Yep, during the 70's and early 80's, and I also remember the great Gordon Solie, one of the most entertaining wrestling commentators ever...
