The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line
A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.
San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.
Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.
Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.
Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.
"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.
There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.
This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.
We should tell Darks that he needs to keep them under better control.
You see a six foot tall bipedal rabbit out there, tell him to behave himself.
Threaten him with being stared at by pugs.
No no no.
I am not getting kicked by six foot of leporid just for a joke.
Did anyone tell Moose we moved? Haven't seen him lately.
I hope this is not the reason...
I am really blessed. Monday when I came home from work the traffic was ok. The highway construction only delayed me about 15 minutes. On my 50 plus mile commute home the spot on the road where my car choose to catch fire was probably one of the safest place for me to pull over. I was able to avoid causing an embarrassing traffic jam. It was easy to pull over to the side of the road before the fire caused by car to stall. If the car stall in traffic lane on the off ramp it would most likely be in the local newspaper and cause a big local traffic jam. If it had caught fire in the construction zone on the I-15 south around Devore it would have caused a huge traffic jam and be certainly be big enough to get the LA area news helicopters out to film for the nightly news. If I was close enough to the dry brush not far from the freeway it could most definitely have cause a fire in the San Bernardino National Forest. Fire season in California officially starts around May 15 so if it cause a major it absolutely could have made national news. Well unless a major movie star got a pimple on their butt and was taken to the hospital. That would preempt it. But it was near the end of a freeway off ramp just a little less that a mile from my house. The local Olive Garden Restaurant was just across the off ramp fence. I had just cleaned out all the junk in my car so I had time to grab my phone and other stuff out of the front seat. It was close enough so my parents could come and pick me at a Carl’s Jr. the nearby where the fireman dropped me off. There was nothing nearby to catch fire. I don’t think it will even make the local paper. One of the ladies in the local real estate office that is selling my rental home saw it when she drove by. My parents came and picked me up and we went by their house so I could barrow one of their cars so I could get to work the next day. I got a rental car the next day after work. And to make it even better I got the renewal for the registration in the mail today! Registration is high in California and was about $250. The car was a total loss so I don’t need to pay! It was a Ford Escape 2013 that I only got it last February. I found out later that this model has a history of catching fire. Well in the end I got home about the same time as I usually do if I meet someone for dinner on my way home. We did go though a drive-thru on the way to my parents house so I did get to go out to dinner! Life is good! God is good.
At least it had the decency to immolate on the road. If it were one of those GovMotors Dolts, er, whatever they are, it would have cooked off in your garage and taken your house with it.. ;-)
Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of..... Ahhhh my hand!
Why do you think the new guy was sent to deliver pizza to this address?
He had put green peppers rather then green olives on the first pizza he made for this customer. They had to make a whole new pizza and that took over 30 minutes which meant the the pizza was free.
If he makes it back he will not be so careless in the future.
“This is my porch, you are my pet human. You stay in your enclosure or you’ll be punished.”
For some reason, the following popped to mind: “flips over and explodes for no reason at all! Canyoneeeeroooo!”
Excellent that it held up until you could get to a good bail out location, and doubly so that you are okay!
And no tip.
Is that a catressa or is it a catrix?
Without detail of the posterior ... it could be a male or a eunuch.
The tip is... never put green peppers on my pizza. :)
I agree.
Your facebook page needs updating now that you have a new computer.
The scare, when being stared at by pugs, is to listen to them snort. THAT, my FRiend, is scary!!
