The big fact I don’t get is how this movie has retained such popularity. I mean it was cute, I enjoyed it when it came out, but it’s the definition of a throw away summer movie. And yet, somehow it’s got this huge following.
There is a Goonies tour that you can take around the areas where it was filmed.
The 80’s had the best movies and I was privileged to have my teen years during that time. We were silly but “somewhat” innocent compared to today anyway. The 60’s were to turbulent and I was glad not to be born yet....very tail end in May 1969, I was born. Two of my kids are in high school and goodness what they have to contend with would not have even been on the radar in my day. I have two in grade school yet and can’t even begin to think what their high school days will be like especially my 7 year old. Yieks.
It’s a really cute movie.
The same thing happened with Kindergartner Cop. He was asked to play a big part in that but refused.
One word, Idiot ;-(

I loved when Mouth was telling the Spanish speaking house keeper where everything belonged!!
The Goonies?
Geesh, I’d thought that was all forgotten. Sure seems like it - till now.
Pretty big deal at the time, quickly forgotten and never really bothered with again soon after. I know alot of movies like that. Including Titanic.
I still enjoy the movie, it's a snapshot in time where kids rode their bikes all over town, and big brothers tried to act cool, but had to watch their younger siblings.
The same theme is played over and over: Treasure Island, Narnia Chronicles, others. Kids take off on a journey seeking fortune, and gain independence along the way.
I believe a remake of the Goonies would be a failure just as Annie, Red Dawn, etc.....but I believe the theme of children seeking treasure and adventure is a timeless story.
